Why is Axert prescribed?

Axert (Almotriptan) is commonly used to treat migraines, with or without aura. An aura can occur before or during a migraine and may include sensory disturbances such as seeing flashing lights or zigzag lines, difficulty speaking, or experiencing tingling sensations.

What does it do?

Axert (Almotriptan) works by blocking pain signals and constricting blood vessels in the brain. It is part of a medication group known as triptans and is not intended for migraine prevention.

How should I take it?

Take this medication by mouth, following the instructions of your doctor. The usual dose is 12.5mg for adults. Do not take it more frequently than directed.

Consult your healthcare provider about using this medication in children. Although it may be prescribed for children as young as 12 for certain conditions, precautions are necessary.

What if I missed a dose?

Axert (Almotriptan) should only be used as needed, following your healthcare provider's instructions. Do not take more than the prescribed dose or take extra doses.

What are the special precautions before taking Axert?

If you take migraine medications for 10 or more days a month, your migraines could worsen. Keep track of your headache days and medication usage, and contact your provider if you experience more frequent migraine attacks.

Your healthcare provider needs to know if you have any of the following conditions:

  • Cigarette smoking
  • Circulation issues in your fingers or toes
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • History of irregular heartbeat or stroke
  • Kidney or liver disease
  • Stomach or intestinal problems
  • You may experience dry mouth. Chewing sugarless gum, sucking on hard candy, and drinking plenty of water can help and note that medication may cause drowsiness or dizziness. If the issue persists or becomes severe, contact your healthcare provider.

Does it have any side effects?

Some drug interactions may cause serious or life-threatening reactions when administered together.
      Common side effects may include:
  • Dizziness

  • Severe stomach issues: Sudden stomach pain, vomiting, fever, nausea, or bloody diarrhea.
  • Vision loss
  • This list may not cover all possible side effects. Contact your doctor for guidance on any side effects you may experience.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
