Why is Colazal prescribed?

Colazal (Balsalazide) is an anti-inflammatory medication used to treat active mild to moderate ulcerative colitis.

What does it do?

Colazal (Balsalazide) may work by inhibiting certain natural substances in the large intestine, helping to reduce inflammation.

How should I take it?

Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor, and the usual dose for adults is three capsules a day and do not take it more frequently or for a longer duration than recommended. Consult your doctor before stopping the medication.

You can take this medicine with or without food, and inform your doctor if you're following a low-sodium diet. Swallow the capsule whole do not cut, crush, or chew it.

If you have trouble swallowing the capsule, you can open it and mix the contents with a small amount of applesauce. Stir well and swallow immediately. Do not store the mixture for later use, as it may stain your teeth or tongue. Contact your doctor if you have any concerns about this.

What if I missed a dose?

If you miss a dose of Balsalazide, take it as soon as you remember. If it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double dose.

What are the special precautions before taking Colazal?

You should not use Colazal if you are allergic to Mesalamine, Balsalazide, Aspirin, or other salicylates (such as Pamprin, Pepto-Bismol, Kaopectate, Tricosal, Trilisate, and others).

Inform your doctor if you have a history of:

  • Liver disease
  • Kidney disease
  • A stomach condition called pyloric stenosis.
  • Colazal tablets contain sodium. If you are on a low-salt diet, consult your doctor before using this form of Balsalazide.

Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It is unclear whether Colazal could harm an unborn baby, but untreated ulcerative colitis during pregnancy may increase the risk of premature birth or low birth weight. The benefits of treating ulcerative colitis may outweigh the potential risks.

If you are breastfeeding, inform your doctor if you notice diarrhea in the baby.

Colazal capsules should not be given to children under 5 years old, and the tablets should not be used by anyone under 18.

Does it have any side effects?

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
