Why is Dovato prescribed?

Dovato (Dolutegravir/ Lamivudine) is a comprehensive prescription treatment for HIV-1 in individuals aged 12 and older who weigh at least 55 lbs. It is intended for those who have not previously received HIV-1 medications or as a replacement for their current HIV-1 treatment, provided their doctor determines they meet specific criteria.

What does it do?

Dovato contains two medications: Dolutegravir and Lamivudine, which work at different stages of the HIV replication process to prevent the virus from multiplying. This helps reduce the virus level in the blood.

How should I take it?

Take this medication 1 tablet daily and may change in case you are taking other medications. You can take it with or without food.

What if I missed a dose?

If you miss a dose of Dovato, take it as soon as possible. If it's nearly time for your next dose, just take that dose. Do not take two doses at once or more than the prescribed amount.

What are the special precautions before taking Dovato?

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, your current and previous medical history.

Do not take Dovato if you:
  • Are pregnant
  • Are also taking Dofetilide, as combining these medications may lead to life-threatening side effects
  • Have had an allergic reaction to Dovato or any of its inactive ingredients
To ensure Dovato is safe for you, inform your doctor if you:
  • Breastfeeding
  • Have kidney issues
  • Plan to become pregnant
  • Have liver disease or a liver infection, especially hepatitis B or C
Do not run out of Dovato. If you do, the virus in your blood may increase and become harder to treat. When your supply is running low, be sure to get more from your healthcare provider or pharmacy. If you stop taking Dovato, regular monitoring of your health will be necessary.

Does it have any side effects?

It is important to note that all drugs have corresponding side effects and adverse reactions. Additional information may be obtained when you ask your doctor or pharmacist.
    Common side effects may include:
  • Diarrhea
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Increased blood sugar level
  • Increased creatine kinase levels
    Serious side effects may include:
  • Severe Allergic Reactions
  • Immune Reconstitution Syndrome-This can occur when starting HIV-1 treatment, as your immune system becomes stronger and may begin to fight infections that were previously hidden in your body.
  • Liver Problems-Individuals with a history of hepatitis B or C may have an increased risk of developing new or worsening liver issues during Dovato treatment.
  • Lactic Acidosis- A buildup of lactic acid in the blood is a serious medical emergency that can be fatal.
These are not all possible side effects of Dovato. If you have any concerns, consult your doctor for medical advice.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Some medications can significantly reduce the effectiveness of Dovato when taken together. Be sure to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking specifically, let them know if you are taking:
  • Antacids or laxatives containing magnesium, calcium, or aluminum (e.g., Amphojel), or the ulcer medication sucralfate (Carafate)
  • Carbamazepine
  • Rifampin
  • St. John's Wort
  • Vitamin or mineral supplements containing calcium or iron (if you take dolutegravir with food, these supplements can be taken together)

Many medications interact with Dolutegravir and Lamivudine, including prescription and OTC drugs, vitamins, and herbal products. Not all potential interactions are listed here. Be sure to tell your doctor about all the medications you're currently taking, as well as any new ones you begin or stop using. Refer to the prescribing information for a complete list of interactions.

How should I store it?

Store Dovato tablets at room temperature, below 86°F (30°C), in a child-resistant container. Keep this medication away from damp or wet areas, such as bathrooms.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

If you believe you have taken too much of this medication, contact your doctor or go to the emergency room immediately.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

It is not known how Dovato may affect pregnancy or harm an unborn baby. Inform your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. They will guide you on whether you should take Dovato during pregnancy or while trying to conceive.

Dovato can pass into breast milk. Let your healthcare provider know if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. There may be risks associated with breastfeeding while taking Dovato or having HIV. These include the possibility of transmitting the HIV-1 virus to your baby, challenges in treating the virus if your baby contracts HIV-1, or potential side effects from Dovato. Your healthcare provider will advise you on whether breastfeeding is safe while taking Dovato.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
