Why is Taclonex Scalp prescribed?

Taclonex Scalp is indicated for the topical treatment of plaque psoriasis of the scalp in adults and adolescents (18 years old and older). Plaque psoriasis is characterized by raised, red patches covered by a silvery white buildup of dead skin cells (scale). Taclonex Scalp combines a vitamin D analog (calcipotriene) and a mid-strength corticosteroid (betamethasone dipropionate) to target both the excess skin cell proliferation and the inflammation underlying psoriatic plaques.

What does it do?

Calcipotriene, a Vitamin D analog, slows epidermal cell proliferation, normalizing skin cell turnover and reducing scale buildup. Betamethasone dipropionate on the other hand, is a corticosteroid, provides anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects, helping decrease redness, itching, and swelling by suppressing inflammatory cytokines and immune cell activity. Together, they deliver faster and more complete clearance of psoriatic plaques than either component alone, with a relatively favorable safety profile when used as directed.

How should I take it?

Make sure to shake the bottle well before each use. Apply a thin layer of Taclonex Scalp once daily to affected areas, gently rubbing it in. Treatment should be limited to a maximum of 8 weeks, though it may be discontinued earlier if lesions clear. Do not exceed 100 g per week (about ¾ of a tube) and avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes, and rinse thoroughly if accidental exposure occurs.

What if I missed a dose?

If you miss a daily application, apply Taclonex Scalp as soon as you remember. Do not apply extra suspension or increase the frequency to make up for the missed dose. Simply resume your regular once-daily schedule the next day.

What are the special precautions before taking Taclonex Scalp?

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, your current and previous medical history and before taking Taclonex Scalp, here are several important precautions to keep in mind:

  • Do not take Taclonex if you're allergic to Enstilar, Wynzora, or any of the ingredients in the medication.
  • Disclose all your current or past medical conditions to your doctor, particularly if you have hypercalcemia or any other skin conditions or infections.
  • Do not use on face, axillae or groin to reduce risk of skin atrophy and steroid-induced side effects.
  • Do not apply a bandage or dressing to the treated area unless directed by your healthcare provider.

Does it have any side effects?

It is important to note that all drugs have corresponding side effects and adverse reactions. Additional information may be obtained when you ask your doctor or pharmacist.
    Common side effects may include:
  • Itching or burning sensation at the application site
  • Redness or scaly rash
  • Folliculitis
  • Skin color changes
  • Headache
    Serious side effects may include:
  • High calcium levels (Hypercalcemia)
  • Swelling in the face or trunk
  • Severe skin reactions
  • Vision problems
This is not a complete list of potential side effects, and additional reactions may occur. For detailed information and medical guidance, consult your healthcare provider.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Taclonex Scalp (Calcipotriene/Betamethasone dipropionate) can interact with various medications, so it's important to check for potential interactions before taking it with another drug.

Before taking Taclonex Scalp, consult your doctor if you are using any of the following medications:

  • Vitamin D supplements
  • Calcium supplements or diuretic
  • Other topical corticosteroids
  • Other medication for psoriasis
This is not a complete list of all the potential drug interactions, always consult your doctor or pharmacist before combining Tabloid with other medications to ensure safety.

How should I store it?

Taclonex Scalp should be stored in its original container at room temperature, ideally between 15°C and 30°C (59°F to 86°F). Keep the medication in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, and ensure it is kept out of reach of children and pets.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

If you suspect an overdose of Taclonex Scalp, it's important to act quickly and seek immediate medical attention. Contact emergency services or go to the nearest hospital.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Taclonex Scalp should be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding only if clearly needed, and under the guidance of a healthcare provider. The effects of topical calcipotriene/betamethasone on pregnancy and fetal development are not well understood. However, using it during pregnancy may increase the risk of low birth weight.

For breastfeeding, it’s unknown whether calcipotriene or betamethasone is excreted in human milk when applied topically. If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, consult your healthcare provider for guidance on its use to ensure safety for both you and your baby.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
