Why is Accrufer prescribed?

Accrufer (Ferric maltol) is a prescription medication for adults used to treat low iron levels in the body.

What does it do?

Accrufer treats iron deficiency anemia by increasing the iron levels in your body.

How should I take it?

Take Accrufer by mouth with water, following the instructions on the prescription label usual dose of 2 capsules a day. Do not crush, cut, or chew the capsules—swallow them whole. Ensure your stomach is empty by taking this medication a minimum of 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.

What if I missed a dose?

If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is coming up soon, just take the next one at the regular time. Avoid taking extra doses.

What are the special precautions before taking Accrufer?

Your doctor should be informed if you have ever had, or currently have, any of the following:
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  • Frequent blood transfusions
  • High iron levels in your blood
  • Problems with your stomach or intestines
  • Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant

Use iron supplements only as directed by your doctor. Attend regular check-ups, as you will need important blood tests while taking this medication. Treating low iron levels may require 3 to 6 months of therapy.

Do not use iron supplements longer than prescribed or take more than the recommended dose. Prolonged use can lead to excess iron accumulating in your body.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
