Why is Accupril prescribed?

Accupril (Quinapril) is used in adults, either alone or with other medications, to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure can help reduce the risk of stroke or heart attack.

What does it do?

Accupril works by blocking the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), which prevents the formation of the hormone angiotensin II. When angiotensin II attaches to receptors, it causes blood vessels to tighten. By blocking its formation, quinapril helps relax blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily. These effects can improve heart function, lower blood pressure, and potentially reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.

How should I take it?

Take Accupril exactly as directed by your doctor. The usual starting dose is 5mg to a maximum of 20 to 80mg. Your doctor may adjust your dose from time to time.

What if I missed a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take only the next one. Do not take two doses at once.

What are the special precautions before taking Accupril?

Always inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, your current and previous medical history.
  • A history of angioedema
  • An allergy to any other ACE inhibitors, such as Benazepril, Lisinopril, Moexipril, Perindopril, Ramipril, Captopril, Enalapril, Fosinopril, or Trandolapril
  • To ensure Accupril is safe for you, inform your doctor if you have ever had:
    • A connective tissue disease, such as Sjogren’s syndrome, lupus, Marfan syndrome, scleroderma, or rheumatoid arthritis
    • Diabetes
    • Heart problems
    • Low blood pressure
    • High potassium levels in the blood (hyperkalemia)
    • A low-salt diet
    • Low white blood cell counts
    • Kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis)
    • Liver disease
    • Do not take Accupril within 36 hours before or after taking a medication that contains sacubitril (e.g., Entresto).

If you have diabetes, avoid using Accupril with any medication that contains aliskiren (a blood pressure medication).

You may also need to avoid taking Accupril with aliskiren if you have kidney disease.

Does it have any side effects?

It is important to note that all drugs have corresponding side effects and adverse reactions. Additional information may be obtained when you ask your doctor or pharmacist.

        Common side effects may include:
      • Dizziness, tiredness

        Serious side effects may include:
      • Chest pain or slow, a fast, or irregular heart rate
      • Feeling light-headed or faint
      • Heart problems, such as swelling, rapid weight gain, or shortness of breath
      • Kidney issues, including reduced urination, fatigue, swelling, or shortness of breath
      • Liver problems, like loss of appetite, upper right stomach pain, fatigue, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), itching, dark urine, clay-colored stools, or abnormal liver function tests
      • Signs of infection, such as fever, chills, unusual tiredness, loss of appetite, bruising, sore throat, body aches, or bleeding
      • High blood potassium levels, with symptoms like nausea, irregular heartbeats, weakness, tingling, chest pain, or loss of movement
This is not a complete list of side effects. Contact your doctor for medical advice if you experience any side effects.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Some drug interactions may cause serious or life-threatening reactions when administered together. Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, especially:
      • Aliskiren
      • Diuretics
      • Sacubitril
      • Lithium
      • Losartan
      • Everolimus
      • Temsirolimus
      • Sirolimus
      • Valsartan
      • Ask your doctor or pharmacist for other possible interactions not listed within this section.

        How should I store it?

Store Accupril at room temperature, between 68°F and 77°F (20°C to 25°C). It can be briefly exposed to temperatures between 59°F and 86°F (15°C to 30°C), such as during transportation. Keep the medication in a cool, dry place, in a tightly closed container, and protect it from light.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

Overdose of Accupril may experience dizziness and fainting, seek medical help immediately by calling your doctor or going to the nearest hospital.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Accupril can cause serious harm or even death to an unborn baby if taken during pregnancy. Inform your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. If you become pregnant, stop taking Accupril immediately and contact your healthcare provider. Note that Accupril passes into breast milk. Let your healthcare provider know if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
