Why is Adalat prescribed?

Adalat (Nifedipine) is a calcium channel blocker that helps relax and widen blood vessels (both veins and arteries), easing the heart's pumping effort and reducing its workload. It is commonly used to treat high chest pain (angina) and blood pressure (hypertension).

What does it do?

Adalat works by relaxing your blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more freely. This can help alleviate chest pain, lower blood pressure, and potentially reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Why is Adalat prescribed?

Take Adalat exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor may adjust your dose from time to time. Swallow the tablet whole without chewing, crushing, or breaking it. Take the extended-release tablet on an empty stomach with the usual starting dose of 30mg per day.

What if I missed a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it's nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take only the scheduled one. Do not take two doses at once or extra doses.

What are the special precautions before taking Adalat?

You should inform your care team before taking this medication if you have any of the following conditions:
  • Allergies or unusual reactions to nifedipine
  • Blockage in your bowels
  • Constipation
  • Heart disease
  • Heart failure
  • Liver disease
  • Low blood pressure

Do not self-medicate for colds, coughs, or pain while using this medication without consulting your care team, as some medications may raise your blood pressure.

This medication may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Avoid operating machinery, driving, or engaging in activities that require mental alertness until you know how it affects you. To minimize the risk of dizziness or fainting, avoid standing or sitting up quickly, especially if you are older.

The tablet shell of certain brands may not dissolve, which is normal. It may appear whole in your stool, and this is not a cause for concern.

Does it have any side effects?

It is important to note that all drugs have corresponding side effects and adverse reactions. Additional information may be obtained when you ask your doctor or pharmacist.
    Common side effects may include:
  • Constipation
  • Dizziness
  • Redness or flushing of the face
  • Headache
  • Heart palpitations (rapid, pounding, or irregular heartbeat)
  • Nausea
  • Stomach pain
    • Serious side effects may include:
  • Allergic reactions, such as skin rash, itching, hives, or swelling of the tongue, face, lips or throat
  • Heart attack symptoms, including chest, shoulder, arm, or jaw pain or tightness, shortness of breath, nausea, cold or clammy skin, and feeling faint or lightheaded
  • Heart failure symptoms, such as shortness of breath, swelling in the ankles, feet, or hands, sudden weight gain, and unusual weakness or fatigue
  • Low blood pressure symptoms, including dizziness, faintness, or blurry vision
  • Worsening chest pain (angina), including pressure, pain, or tightness in the chest, neck, back, or arms
  • This list may not cover all potential side effects. Contact your doctor for medical advice about any side effect that you may experience.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

    How should I store it?

Store the tablets in a cool, dry place, away from light and moisture, at temperatures below 86°F (30°C). Keep them in tightly sealed, light-resistant containers. Ensure they are kept out of reach of children and pets.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

If you suspect you have taken an overdose of Adalat with symptoms like hypotension or loss of consciousness , immediately contact your doctor or go to the emergency room.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
