Why is Apoquel prescribed?

Apoquel (Oclacitinib) is used to control pruritus associated with allergic dermatitis in dogs and not to be used with dogs less than 12 months of age and human use.

What does it do?

Apoquel is a medication for itching and inflammation in dogs. It addresses the root cause of itching and inflammation by inhibiting an enzyme called Janus kinase (JAK 1 and JAK 3). It triggers an allergic reaction and quickly relieves allergy symptoms within hours.

his medication can reduce scratching, licking, and discomfort caused by allergic skin conditions in pets, and can reduce sleepiness.

How should I take it?

Apoquel (oclacitinib) is available in tablet and chewable form forms taken orally. It can be taken with or without food, twice daily up to 14 days of treatment, and then once a day for maintenance therapy. The dose depends on every dog's body weight and the doctor’s prescription.

What if I missed a dose?

Strictly follow your veterinarians prescribed dosing schedule. However, if you miss a dose, take it immediately. Never give extra dose at the same time just to make up for your missed dose.

What are the special precautions before taking Apoquel?

Your dogs should be monitored for any signs and symptoms of infection and not to be used in dogs with serious infection. Regular complete blood count monitoring is recommended for dogs receiving long-term treatment.

A CBC or complete blood count is done before and after starting the medication for monitoring. It is also making sure that the dog does not have any liver disease.

This drug is not for humans. Immediately wash your hands after handling the tablets.

Does it have any side effects?

It is important to note that all drugs have corresponding side effects and adverse reactions. You may be able to get more information when you ask your veterinarian.

    Common side effects may include:
  • Diarrhea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Low energy
  • Vomiting
    • Serious side effects may include:
  • Cancer
  • Infections
  • Neoplasms and skin masses
  • Seizures

If the symptoms do not go away or are life-threatening, immediately stop taking the medication and seek medical help.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

There is less information and reports on any drug interactions that may cause serious or life-threatening reactions when administered together. Apoquel is reportedly safe to use with a variety of common medications, including antibiotics and vaccines.

Your veterinarian will determine if this is the best medication for your dogs on this case.

How should I store it?

Store in a room temperature and keep away in reach of the children.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

An Apoquel overdose is unlikely, but overdoses may occur if medication is given over long periods of time. If you suspect an overdose, immediately call your veterinarian for medical assistance.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding dogs?

Apoquel is not advised to be used for pregnant and lactating dogs. Always consult your veterinarian before starting this medication.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
