Why is Axid prescribed?

Nizatidine (Axid) is prescribed for treatment and maintenance treatment of stomach and intestinal ulcers. It is also used in conditions where there is excess acid in the stomach, heartburn, and erosive esophagitis (damage to the esophagus due to the backing up of acid from the stomach).

What does it do?

Peptic ulcers (ulcers found in the stomach or intestine) occur when the stomach acid corrodes the lining of your stomach and decreases the mucus that protects it. Treatment of peptic ulcers are not difficult however if proper treatment is not done, they can worsen.

Nizatidine is a histamine-2 blocker and it decreases the amount of acid produced by the stomach. It can inhibit acid secretion at night for up to 12 hours and can also decrease acid secretion triggered by caffeine, food, and other causes.

How should I take it?

Axid is available in 150mg and 300mg capsules. It is intended for oral administration and should be swallowed as a whole. Do not crush, chew, break it in half, or tamper the capsule in any way. Take it with a full glass of water one hour before eating or drinking anything that may cause heartburn.

Follow your doctor’s instructions when taking Axid to ensure the best results. Only take the dose prescribed by your doctor and do not make alterations in the dosage or frequency when taking the medication.

If your heartburn worsens or your symptoms do not improve after 14 days, consult your doctor.

When taking Axid, you may need to make changes in your diet or lifestyle to improve your condition. Follow your doctor’s recommendations.

What if I missed a dose?

Taking the dose properly at the scheduled time is needed to attain the desired effect of the drug. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and catch the next dose at the regular time. Do not take two doses just to make up for your missed dose.

What are the special precautions before taking Axid?

Inform your doctor if you are allergic to Nizatidine, any component of Axid, medications of the same category, or any other medications.

Inform your doctor of your past and present medical history if you have or have had pain when swallowing, heartburn that lasted more than 3 months, bloody or tarry stools, weight loss, vomiting, chest pain, stomach pain, and kidney or liver disease.

Tell your doctor if you have high levels of vitamin D and calcium in your blood, malabsorption syndrome (problems in absorbing nutrients from food) and if you are sensitive to large amounts of vitamin D.

Inform your doctor as well if you have ever had heart disease, diabetes, phenylketonuria, kidney disease, liver disease, or an electrolyte imbalance.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
