Why is Baraclude prescribed?

Baraclude (Entecavir) is used to treat chronic hepatitis B virus infection in adults who show signs of active viral replication, along with either persistent elevations in serum aminotransferases (ALT or AST) or histologically active disease.

What does it do?

Entecavir works by helping to prevent the spread of the hepatitis B virus in your body, which can cause liver damage in those affected.

How should I take it?

Take this medicine by mouth. Baraclude should be taken on an empty stomach, at least 2 hours before or after eating. Avoid taking it with food. Take the medicine at regular intervals and do not take more than prescribed. For children, consult your pediatrician before using this medication. While it may be prescribed for children as young as 2 years old for certain conditions, precautions are necessary.

What if I missed a dose?

If you miss Baraclude, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take two doses at once. Skipping doses of Entecavir can reduce its effectiveness over time, so it’s crucial not to miss or skip any doses.

What are the special precautions before taking Baraclude?

You should not take this medication if you are allergic to entecavir or if you have untreated HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). Before starting treatment, you may need to be tested for HIV, as using Baraclude to treat chronic hepatitis B could cause HIV to become resistant to certain HIV/AIDS medications.

To ensure Baraclude is safe for you, inform your doctor if you have ever had:

  • HIV or AIDS (or have been exposed to HIV)
  • Kidney disease
  • Liver issues other than hepatitis B
  • Liver transplant

Let your doctor know about any previous medications you've used to treat hepatitis B, as Baraclude may not be suitable if you've taken certain other HBV treatments.

Baraclude can also cause serious conditions like lactic acidosis. Seek emergency medical attention if you experience symptoms such as muscle pain or weakness, numbness or coldness in limbs, trouble breathing, stomach pain, nausea with vomiting, dizziness, irregular heartbeats, or extreme fatigue.

Does it have any side effects?

Seek emergency medical attention if you experience any signs of an allergic reaction to Baraclude, such as hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of your lips, face, tongue, or throat.
    Common side effects may include:
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness or tiredness
  • Headache
Some individuals taking Baraclude may develop lactic acidosis, a potentially fatal condition. Get emergency help if you notice even mild symptoms such as:
  • Unusual muscle pain
  • Feeling cold
  • Trouble breathing
  • Dizziness, fatigue, lightheadedness, or weakness
  • Stomach pain, vomiting
  • Rapid or irregular heartbeat
This is not a full list of potential side effects. If you experience any other symptoms or concerns, consult your doctor for further guidance.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Some drug interactions may cause serious or life-threatening reactions when administered together. Immediately inform your doctor if you are taking Baraclude with any of the following medications:
  • Capreomycin
  • Colistin, Colistimethate, Polymyxin E
  • Quinidine
  • Quinine
  • Dofetilide
  • Procainamide
  • Vancomycin
  • This list may not include all possible interactions. Be sure to provide your healthcare provider with a complete list of all medications.

    How should I store it?

Store Baraclude tablets in a tightly closed container at 25°C (77°F), with allowed temperature fluctuations between 15–30°C (59–86°F). Keep it protected from light and out of reach of children and pets.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

If you suspect an overdose which is rare for Baraclude, immediately contact your doctor or go to the nearest emergency room if needed.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

It is unclear whether entecavir affects pregnancy or harms an unborn baby. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, inform your doctor. They will guide you on whether you should continue taking Entecavir.

It is not known if Baraclude passes into breast milk. Inform your doctor before taking Entecavir while breastfeeding.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
