Why is Caduet prescribed?

Caduet (Amlodipine besylate and Atorvastatin calcium) is a medication that combines a calcium channel blocker and a statin, used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) or chest pain (angina) associated with high cholesterol or triglyceride levels.

What does it do?

Amlodipine works by relaxing your blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily and reducing the effort required by your heart. Atorvastatin helps lower blood cholesterol levels by reducing the amount of cholesterol produced by your liver and promoting the breakdown of harmful cholesterol.

How should I take it?

Take Caduet once a day, at any time that works for you. It can be taken with or without food. Do not break the tablets before taking them. If you have difficulty swallowing pills, speak with your healthcare provider. Your provider may recommend a cholesterol-lowering diet before starting you on Caduet, and it's important to continue this low-fat diet while using the medication.

What if I missed a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if more than twelve (12) hours have passed since your last dose, skip the missed dose and take the next one at your regular time. Do not take two doses of Caduet at once.

What are the special precautions before taking Caduet?

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, your current and previous medical history. Do not use Caduet if you have the following conditions below:
  • Allergic to Caduet, Atorvastatin (Lipitor), Amlodipine (Norvasc), or any of the inactive ingredients in the tablets.
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Have liver disease.
Inform your doctor if you have a history of:
  • Diabetes
  • Kidney disease
  • Thyroid disorders
  • Heart disease
  • Muscle pain or weakness

Atorvastatin can cause muscle tissue breakdown, which may lead to kidney failure, particularly in older adults, women, or individuals with kidney disease or poorly controlled hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid).

Avoid the following:
  • Drinking alcohol, as it can raise triglyceride levels, increase the risk of liver damage, and heighten certain side effects of Caduet.
  • If you take nitroglycerin for chest pain, do not stop taking it while using Caduet.
  • Eating foods high in fat or cholesterol, as this can reduce Caduet's effectiveness.
  • Grapefruit products, as they can interact with this medication and cause unwanted side effects.
  • Does it have any side effects?

It is important to note that all drugs have corresponding side effects and adverse reactions. Additional information may be obtained when you ask your doctor or pharmacist.
      Common side effects may include:
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Muscle spasms
  • Throat pain
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Pain in the extremities
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Upset stomach
  • Musculoskeletal pain
  • Swelling in the legs or ankles
  • Nasal congestion, sore throat, runny nose
    • Serious side effects may include:
  • Tenderness, muscle pain, and weakness (myopathy): Muscle issues, including muscle breakdown, can be severe in some individuals and, in rare cases, may cause kidney damage that could be fatal.
  • Unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially if accompanied by fever or unusual fatigue while taking Caduet.
  • Persistent muscle issues even after your healthcare provider advises you to stop taking Caduet. Further tests may be needed to identify the cause.
  • Chest pain that does not subside or worsens. This may occur when starting Caduet or increasing your dosage, and could indicate a heart attack. Seek emergency medical attention if this happens.
  • For a full list of side effects, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs.
  • Antibiotics and antifungals (e.g., Erythromycin, Ketoconazole, Clarithromycin, Itraconazole, Voriconazole)
  • Birth control pills
  • Cholesterol-lowering drugs (e.g., Gemfibrozil)
  • Niacin
  • Fibrates
  • Heart failure medication (e.g., Digoxin)
  • Immune system medications (e.g., Cyclosporine)
  • Gout treatment (e.g., Colchicine)
  • Medications for HIV, AIDS, or hepatitis C
  • You can take nitroglycerin and Caduet together. If you use nitroglycerin for chest pain (angina), do not stop taking it while on Caduet.

    How should I store it?

Store Caduet at room temperature, between 68°F and 77°F (20°C to 25°C). Keep Caduet and all other medicines out of the reach of children.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

If you take more Caduet than prescribed or overdose, immediately contact your healthcare provider or go to the nearest emergency room.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Caduet should not be used during pregnancy, as atorvastatin may harm a fetus. While taking this medication, you should use at least two reliable forms of birth control (e.g., condoms, birth control pills). If you become pregnant or suspect you may be pregnant, contact your doctor immediately. It is unclear whether amlodipine or atorvastatin passes into breast milk, so breastfeeding is not recommended while using this medication.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
