Why is Carafate prescribed?

Sucralfate (Carafate) is prescribed alone or in combination with other medications for the treatment of ulcer in the intestine, especially in the duodenum.

What does it do?

Sucralfate, classified as a protectant medication, primarily works by increasing the levels of tissues in the fibroblast; thus, helping the body heal ulcers through the increase of prostaglandins levels, a group of lipids, in the lining of the gastrointestinal tract.

How should I take it?

Carafate is currently available as a 1g tablet. Each tablet should be taken as a whole (do not split) by mouth with or without food.

The dosage strength depends on every patient’s condition and the doctor’s prescription. It is imperative that you do not self-medicate and only take this drug after consulting with your doctor or pharmacist to determine the best dosage and dosing schedule for the treatment of your condition.

What if I missed a dose?

The desired effects of prescribed medications will only be achieved if taken properly. As much as possible, strictly follow your doctor’s prescribed dosing schedule. However, if you miss a dose, take it immediately and adjust the time of your next dose depending on your doctor’s advice. Never take two doses at the same time just to make up for your missed dose.

What are the special precautions before taking Carafate?

Before taking Sucralfate, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any allergies to food or to the drug itself as it may contain several inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or problems.

Inform your doctor about your past and current medical history especially if you have or have had kidney problems, dysphagia, delayed gastric emptying time, tracheostomy, diabetes and tube feeding.

Consult your doctor regarding all the other medications you use before getting surgery.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, Turkey, and Singapore.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
