Why is Combigan prescribed?

Combigan eye drops is prescribed to treat open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension (high pressure in the eye). Patients with glaucoma, if left untreated, may cause damage to the nerves in the eyes and cause loss of vision in extreme cases.

What does it do?

Combigan eye drops consist of a combination of an alpha-adrenergic agonist (Brimonidine tartrate) and beta-blocker (Timolol maleate) to prevent the increase in intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Brimonidine tartrate acts to decrease the amount of fluid present in the eye while Timolol maleate acts to decrease pressure in the eye.

How should I apply it?

Combigan eye drop is a 0.2%/0.5% ophthalmic solution available in 5ml, 10ml, 15ml, 20ml and 30ml bottles.

Wash your hands before handling Combigan eye drops and remove any contact lenses in your eye, if present. When reinserting contact lenses after applying Combigan eye drops, wait for 15 minutes to avoid discoloration.

To apply Combigan eye drops:

  • Tilt your head back slightly and create a pocket by pulling down your lower eyelid. Place the dropper above your eye with the tip facing down. Look up and away from the dropper and squeeze gently until a drop comes out.
  • Check your prescription for the recommended number of drops your doctor has prescribed. If instructed to apply more than one drop, wait for 5 minutes before applying the next drop.
  • If prescribed with another eye drop medication, wait for at least 10 minutes before applying it.

Avoid touching the tip of the eye dropper with your hands or placing it directly on your eye. This may lead to an infection, and cause eyesight problems.

It is imperative to use Combigan eye drops according to your doctor’s prescription. Use Combigan only for the recommended duration and amount prescribed.

What if I missed a dose?

The desired effects of prescribed medications will only be achieved if used properly. As much as possible, strictly follow your doctor’s prescribed dosing schedule. However, if you miss a dose, apply it immediately and adjust the time of your next dose depending on your doctor’s advice. Never administer two doses at the same time just to make up for your missed dose.

What are the special precautions before using Combigan eye drops?

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, your current and previous medical history especially if you have or had asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, serious heart conditions such as congestive heart failure and any allergic reactions to Brimonidine, Timolol or any other ingredients included in the manufacture of this medication.

Inform your doctor if you had any form of surgery or if you are planning to get one.

How should I store it?

What action should I take in case of overdose?

Immediately call an ambulance and seek immediate medical attention to prevent further complications.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Developmental risks associated with the use of Combigan eye drops in pregnant women have not been well established.

Studies show that the component of Combigan eye drops, Timolol, has been detected in human milk after administration through the oral and ophthalmic routes. But it is unsure whether Brimonidine is excreted in human milk. The effects of the medication on the breastfed infant are unknown.

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or planning on doing so to ensure that the benefits of taking the medication outweigh the risks.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, Turkey, and Singapore.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
