Why is EryPed prescribed?

EryPed (Erythromycin Ethylsuccinate) is a macrolide antibiotic prescribed to treat various bacterial infections.

What does it do?

Erythromycin is part of a class of medications known as macrolide antibiotics. These antibiotics work by slowing the growth of, or sometimes killing, susceptible bacteria by inhibiting the production of essential proteins that the bacteria need to survive.

How should I take it?

EryPed oral is taken by mouth with or without food. The usual dose is 400mg every 6 hours for oral suspension and maybe adjusted that depends on the severity of the infection.

What if I missed a dose?

Take EryPed as soon as possible, but if it's nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double dose.

What are the special precautions before taking EryPed?

Certain medications can cause harmful or dangerous interactions when used with Erythromycin. Your doctor may adjust your treatment plan if you are also taking:
  • Ergotamine
  • Cisapride
  • Pimozide
  • Lovastatin
  • Simvastatin

Inform your doctor if you have a history of:

  • Long QT syndrome
  • Kidney disease
  • Heart rhythm disorder
  • Myasthenia gravis
  • Electrolyte imbalance (such as magnesium levels in your blood)

Does it have any side effects?

Seek emergency medical help if you experience signs of an allergic reaction to Erythromycin, such as hives, swelling of your face or throat, or if you have a severe skin reaction.
    Common side effects may include:
  • Abnormal liver function tests
  • Severe stomach pain or diarrhea that is watery or bloody (even if it occurs months after your last dose)
  • Liver problems
    Serious side effects may include:
  • Hearing problems (rare)
  • Seizure
  • Headache along with chest pain or rapid/pounding heartbeats
  • Pancreatitis, indicated by severe upper stomach pain radiating to your back, nausea, and vomiting
  • Severe diarrhea that is watery or bloody (even if it happens months after your last dose)
  • Liver issues, such as loss of appetite, upper right stomach pain, or jaundice

Older adults may be at higher risk for serious side effects, including hearing loss or a life-threatening rapid heart rate.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Drug interactions can affect how your medications work or increase the risk of serious side effects. This document doesn’t cover all possible interactions.

One drug that may interact with erythromycin is Digoxin.

Certain drugs can also impact how Erythromycin is processed in your body, including:

  • Azole antifungals (like Itraconazole)
  • Anti-seizure medications (like Carbamazepine)
  • Calcium channel blockers (such as Diltiazem)

Erythromycin can slow the elimination of other medications, altering their effectiveness.

  • Bromocriptine
  • Colchicine
  • Statins (like Lovastatin)
  • Benzodiazepines (like Triazolam)
  • Ergot alkaloids (such as Dihydroergotamine)
  • ED or pulmonary hypertension treatments (like Tadalafil)
  • Vinblastine
This medication may also interfere with certain lab tests (e.g., urine tests), potentially leading to false results. Ensure that lab staff and all your healthcare providers are aware that you are taking this medication.

How should I store it?

Store at room temperature, keep it away from moisture and heat and use within 35 days.

How should I store it?

In case of overdose discontinue the medication immediately and get emergency medical help.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

EryPed should only be used during pregnancy if prescribed by a doctor. This medication can pass into breast milk, so consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
