Why is Estrace prescribed?

Estrace (Estradiol) is a hormonal medication with estrogen that helps women alleviate menopause symptoms, such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness, which occur due to the body's decreased production of estrogen.

What does it do?

Estradiol is indicated in various formulations for the treatment of moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms and vulvar and vaginal atrophy resulting from menopause, as well as for addressing hypoestrogenism due to hypogonadism, castration, or primary ovarian failure. It is also utilized to prevent postmenopausal osteoporosis. Also, estradiol is employed in the palliation of breast cancer in certain men or women with metastatic disease and for the treatment of androgen-dependent prostate cancer (also for palliation).

How should I take it?

Take Estrace (Estradiol) orally as directed by your doctor but that usually depends on individual treatment goals, usual dose starts with the lowest dose taken with or without food. You can take it with food or immediately after a meal to help prevent stomach upset.

What if I missed a dose?

Estrace should be taken as soon as possible if a dose is missed. However, if it's nearly time for the next dose, the missed dose should be skipped. Do not double dose.

What are the special precautions before taking Estrace?

Estrogens, whether used alone or in combination with another hormone (progestin), have infrequently led to severe side effects. Consult your doctor to discuss the risks and benefits of hormone therapy.

  • Estrogens should not be used for the prevention of heart disease and with patients with high blood pressure.
  • Patients with a history of liver disease.
  • Estrogens may raise the risk of uterine cancer (endometrial cancer). Taking a progestin as prescribed by your doctor can help reduce this risk.
  • In postmenopausal women, estrogens whether taken alone or with a progestin raise the risk of breast and ovarian cancer, stroke, dementia, and serious blood clots.
  • When used in combination with a progestin, estrogens also elevate the risk of heart disease, including heart attacks.
  • Estrogens, with or without progestins, should be prescribed at the lowest effective dose for the approved indication.
  • The use of Estrace for osteoporosis prevention should be evaluated in comparison to other available treatment options.
  • Does it have any side effects?

Some side effects of estradiol may occur that typically do not require medical attention. These side effects may diminish as your body adjusts to the medication. Consult your doctor if any of the following side effects persist.
      Common side effects may include:
  • Body aches or pain
  • Chills
  • Cough
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Itching or pain in the genital area
  • Thick and white vaginal discharge with a slight or no odor
  • If the symptoms do not go away or are life-threatening, immediately stop taking the medication and inform your doctor.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Drug interactions can affect how your medications function or heighten your risk for serious side effects. Do not begin, discontinue, or adjust the dosage of any medications without your doctor's consent. Drugs that may interact with Estrace are the following
  • Aromatase inhibitors: Anastrozole, Exemestane, Letrozole
  • Fezolinetant
  • Fulvestrant
  • Ospemifene
  • Raloxifene
  • Tamoxifen
  • Toremifene
  • Tranexamic acid

This document does not include all potential drug interactions. Maintain a list of all products you use, including prescription and nonprescription medications as well as herbal products, and share it with your doctor and pharmacist.

How should I store it?

Store at room temperature (15°-30°C). Keep the container tightly closed and protect it from light.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

If someone has overdosed and is experiencing severe symptoms such as severe nausea and vomiting, call at your nearest emergency department immediately.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Estrace should not be used during pregnancy. Estrogen administration to breastfeeding mothers has been shown to reduce both the quantity and quality of breast milk. Caution should be exercised when administering Estrace to nursing women.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
