Why is Evista prescribed?

Evista, with the generic name Raloxifene HCl, is used to treat osteoporosis (bone thinning and loss) in women who have undergone menopause. It is also used to reduce the risk of the development of invasive ductal or lobular carcinoma (types of breast cancer) in postmenopausal women who are at risk of developing this condition or have osteoporosis. However, this medication cannot be used as a treatment for invasive breast cancers or as a prevention for the recurrence of a previously treated breast cancer.

What does it do?

Raloxifene belongs to a class of medications called Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs), that mimic the effects of estrogen to facilitate bone growth by increasing the density of bone to prevent osteoporosis. It also blocks the effects of estrogen on the breast to reduce the risk of developing invasive breast cancer in women who have a high propensity to develop this condition.

How should I take it?

Evista is currently available as a 60mg tablet taken whole (not split, chewed, or crushed) by mouth with or without meals.

The dosage strength and frequency depend on every patient’s condition and the doctor’s prescription. It is imperative that you do not self-medicate and only take this drug after consulting with your doctor or pharmacist to determine the best dosage and dosing schedule for the treatment of your condition.

What if I missed a dose?

The desired effects of prescribed medications will only be achieved if taken properly. As much as possible, strictly follow your doctor’s prescribed dosing schedule. However, if you miss a dose, take it immediately and adjust the time of your next dose depending on your doctor’s advice. Never take two doses at the same time just to make up for your missed dose.

What are the special precautions before taking Evista?

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking. Discuss your current and previous medical history and any allergic reactions to Evista, or any other ingredients included in the manufacture of this medication.

Discuss with your doctor about increasing your intake of calcium and vitamin D.

Inform your doctor if you had any form of surgery or if you are planning to get one.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, Turkey, and Singapore.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
