Why is Fosamax Plus D prescribed?

Fosamax Plus D (Alendronate / Cholecalciferol) is a combined medication used for treating osteoporosis. It includes alendronate, a widely recommended osteoporosis treatment, and cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) in a single tablet. This medication can enhance bone mineral density (BMD) and reduce the likelihood of bone fractures.

Why is What does it do?

Fosamax Plus D (Alendronate / Cholecalciferol) is prescribed to treat specific forms of bone loss, known as osteoporosis, and to increase bone density. Osteoporosis causes bones to thin and become more prone to fractures. The risk of developing osteoporosis rises with age, post-menopause, or with prolonged use of corticosteroid medications like prednisone.

This product combines two medications: Alendronate works by slowing down the loss of bone tissue, thereby maintaining strong bones and reducing the risk of fractures. It belongs to a group of drugs called bisphosphonates. Vitamin D3 aids in calcium absorption in the body and is essential for the formation of healthy bones.

How should I use it?

Take this medication orally as directed by your doctor, typically once weekly. Select a day of the week that suits your schedule and consistently take it on that day. Take the medication after waking up for the day and before consuming food, beverages, or other medications. Swallow the tablet whole and do not chew or suck on the tablet.

After taking the medication, remain fully upright (sitting, standing, or walking) for at least 30 minutes and avoid lying down until after your first meal of the day. This medication is effective only when taken on an empty stomach.

Wait at least 30 minutes (preferably 1 to 2 hours) after taking the medication before consuming anything other than plain water.

What if I missed a dose?

If you forget to take a dose, take it the following morning when you remember. Afterward, resume your regular weekly dosing schedule on your usual day. Avoid taking two doses on the same day.

What are the special precautions before using Fosamax Plus D?

  • Some people taking Alendronate/Vitamin D3 may experience serious jawbone problems. Your doctor should examine your mouth before starting this medication.
  • Inform your dentist about taking this medication before any dental procedures. To reduce the risk of jawbone issues, maintain regular dental check-ups and practice good oral hygiene. Notify your doctor and dentist promptly if you experience jaw pain.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
