Why is Inlyta prescribed?

Inlyta (Axitinib) is a kinase inhibitor approved for the treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma in patients who have not responded to one prior systemic therapy for this cancer.

What does it do?

Inlyta is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor that targets specific proteins on cancer cells. By blocking these proteins, Inlyta helps prevent the growth of new blood vessels and can stop cancer cells from growing or spreading.

How should I take it?

Your doctor may adjust your dose if necessary. Take Inlyta by mouth twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart. Dose increase or reduction is recommended based on individual safety and tolerability.

What if I missed a dose?

If you miss Inlyta, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next one as scheduled. Do not double dose.

If you vomit after taking a dose of Inlyta, skip that dose and do not take an additional one, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time.

What are the special precautions before taking Inlyta?

Before taking Inlyta, inform your healthcare provider about all of your medical conditions, especially if you:

  • Have thyroid issues
  • Have liver problems
  • Have high blood pressure
  • Have an unhealed wound
  • Have any bleeding disorders
  • Have a history of heart problems, including heart failure
  • Have a history of blood clots in veins or arteries (such as stroke)
  • Plan to have surgery or have recently had surgery. You should stop taking Inlyta at least 2 days before any planned surgery.

Inlyta may affect fertility in both males and females, which could impact your ability to have children. If this is a concern, discuss it with your healthcare provider.

Does it have any side effects?

Inlyta may cause serious side effects. It's important to be aware of the following and report any concerning symptoms to your doctor:

    Common side effects may include:
  • Constipation
  • High blood pressure
  • Hoarseness
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Skin issues on hands and feet (such as rash)
  • Weight loss
    Serious side effects may include:
  • High Blood Pressure (Hypertension): Blood pressure should be monitored regularly. Your doctor may adjust your dose or prescribe medication if issues arise.
  • Thyroid Problems: Blood tests will be done before and during treatment. Report symptoms like persistent fatigue or muscle cramps.
  • Blood Clots: Inlyta can increase the risk of clots in veins or arteries. Seek emergency help if you experience shortness of breath or vision changes.
  • Bleeding: Serious and potentially fatal bleeding may occur. Contact your doctor if you experience large bruises, coughing or vomiting blood, unexplained bleeding, or dizziness and weakness.
  • Gastrointestinal Perforation (Tear in the stomach or intestines): Get immediate help if you have severe abdominal pain or vomiting blood.
  • Reversible Posterior Leukoencephalopathy Syndrome (RPLS): This rare brain condition may cause headache, seizures, high blood pressure, or difficulty thinking. Report these symptoms right away.
  • Protein in Urine: Your urine will be checked regularly. If protein levels rise, your doctor may lower your dose or stop treatment.
  • Liver Function Changes: Liver function tests will be done before and during treatment to monitor for any issues.

Always inform your doctor if you experience any side effects that are persistent. This is not a complete list, ask your doctor or pharmacist for more detailed information.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Inform your doctor about all medications you are currently taking. Inlyta can interact with certain medications, potentially leading to serious side effects.

Be sure to tell your doctor if you are taking:

  • Dexamethasone
  • St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum)
  • Certain Medications for:
    • Bacterial or fungal infections
    • Asthma
    • Tuberculosis
    • Depression
    • HIV or AIDS
    • Seizures
If you're unsure whether a medication you take falls into one of these categories, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Your doctor may need to adjust your Inlyta dose or prescribe an alternative treatment based on these interactions.

    How should I store it?

Store the medication in a tightly closed container at room temperature, moisture, away from heat, and direct sunlight. Do not allow it to freeze. Keep it out of reach of children.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

If you or someone else has taken too much Inlyta, seek medical assistance immediately.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Inlyta can be harmful to unborn children, potentially causing severe birth defects or death. Women who can become pregnant should discuss the risks of using Inlyta with their doctor. It is unclear if Inlyta passes into breast milk, so the decision to use the medication should be made collaboratively between the patient and doctor. Nursing mothers should avoid breastfeeding while using Inlyta.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
