Why is Intrarosa prescribed?

Intrarosa (Prasterone) vaginal inserts are a prescription medication for women post-menopause, designed to alleviate moderate to severe pain during sexual intercourse called dyspareunia resulting from vaginal changes associated with menopause.

What does it do?

Intrarosa is a steroid available as a vaginal insert, indicated for treating moderate to severe dyspareunia linked to menopausal vulvar and vaginal atrophy. Intrarosa (Prasterone) is a synthetic version of DHEA, a steroid naturally produced by the body. It is believed that the body converts prasterone into active hormones known as estrogens and androgens. These hormones may help rejuvenate vaginal tissue and improve lubrication, potentially alleviating pain during sexual activity.

How should I take it?

Insert one Intrarosa vaginal insert daily at bedtime, using the applicator provided.

  • Empty your bladder and wash your hands before handling the vaginal insert and applicator.
  • Before use, the applicator should be activated by pulling back the plunger.
  • The flat end of the pessary should be inserted into the open end of the activated applicator.
  • The applicator should be gently inserted into the vagina as far as it can comfortably go without applying force.
  • Press the plunger of the applicator to release the pessary.

Use each applicator only once to avoid the risk of infection. Do not reuse them. If the Intrarosa (Prasterone) insert drops from the applicator and touches the ground or any unclean surface, discard it and use a new one.

What if I missed a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, but if it's nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule.

What are the special precautions before taking Intrarosa?

Intrarosa can lead to serious health problems, and this risk may be heightened for specific groups. If you have concerns about this, consult your doctor or pharmacist to discuss alternative options.

Intrarosa (Prasterone) is converted to estrogen by your body. Excess estrogen may increase the risk of breast cancer. It is not known whether Intrarosa is safe for women with a history of breast cancer. Do not use Intrarosa if you currently have or have previously had breast cancer. It’s essential to regularly monitor your breasts for any changes and to undergo mammograms as recommended. Inform your healthcare provider if you notice any unusual changes in the shape, size, or color of your breasts.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
