Why is Isentress prescribed?

Isentress is a prescription medication used in combination with other antiretroviral drugs to treat HIV-1 infection in adults and children who weigh at least 4.4 pounds (2 kg). It should not be used in children weighing less than 4.4 pounds (2 kg).

What does it do?

People with HIV have a virus that spreads throughout their body, weakening the immune system and increasing the risk of severe infections. Isentress helps stop the spread of HIV, protecting and preserving the immune system while also reducing the likelihood of transmitting the virus to others.

How should I take it?

You can take Isentress with or without food. Do not chew, crush, or break the regular tablet; swallow it whole. The usual dosage is 1 tablet twice a day. Always follow all instructions by your doctor and carefully read any medication guides or informational sheets provided.

What if I missed a dose?

If you miss a dose of Isentress, take it as soon as you remember. If it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next one as scheduled. Do not take two doses at once.

Missing doses can reduce the effectiveness of Isentress, so it's important to take it regularly and not skip doses.

What are the special precautions before taking Isentress?

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are currently taking, as well as any new ones you start or stop, since many drugs can interact, and some should not be used together.

To ensure Isentress is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had:

  • Liver disease
  • Mental health issues or depression
  • A muscle disorder or muscle damage
  • Kidney disease or if you are on dialysis
  • High levels of creatine kinase (an enzyme that indicates muscle damage)

HIV can be transmitted to your baby if not controlled during pregnancy. If you are pregnant, your name may be added to a registry that tracks the effects of antiviral medications on the baby. It's essential to use your medications correctly to manage HIV.

Do not breastfeed while using this medication. Women with HIV or AIDS should avoid breastfeeding, as the virus can be passed through breast milk, even if the baby is born without HIV.

Does it have any side effects?

Stop taking Isentress and seek emergency medical help if you experience signs of an allergic reaction including fever, stomach pain, vomiting, dark urine, joint or muscle pain, difficulty breathing, yellowing of the skin or eyes, mouth sores, hives, or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat.

In rare cases, Isentress may cause muscle breakdown leading to kidney failure. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience unexplained tenderness, muscle pain, or weakness, especially with fever or dark urine.

Isentress can affect your immune system and cause side effects weeks or months after use. Inform your doctor if you notice:

  • Signs of a new infection, such as fever, cold sores, swollen glands, or weight loss
  • Difficulty speaking, swallowing, or unusual sensations
  • Swelling in your neck or throat, changes in menstruation, or impotence
    Common side effects may include:
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Trouble sleeping
This is not a complete list of side effects. Contact your doctor for further medical advice.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Some medications may not be safe to use together, as they can affect each other's blood levels, potentially increasing side effects or reducing effectiveness.

Be sure to inform your doctor about all the medications you are currently taking. Several drugs can interact with Isentress, including:

  • Rifampin
  • Fenofibrate or Gemfibrozil
  • HIV or AIDS medications, such as Etravirine, Zidovudine
  • Seizure medications like Carbamazepine, Phenytoin
  • "Statin" cholesterol-lowering drugs, such as Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor
This list is not exhaustive, and many other drugs, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements, may also interact with Isentress. Always consult your doctor to check for possible drug interactions.

How should I store it?

Store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

If you take too much Isentress, contact your doctor or go to the nearest emergency room immediately.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Pregnancy: It is unclear whether Isentress could affect pregnancy or harm an unborn baby. Inform your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

Breastfeeding: Do not take Isentress while breastfeeding, as it is unknown whether the drug passes into breast milk. Discuss the potential risks of breastfeeding while taking Isentress, especially if you have HIV, with your healthcare provider.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
