Why is Jentadueto prescribed?

Jentadueto, a combination of linagliptin and metformin hydrochloride, is an oral antihyperglycemic medication used alongside diet and exercise to help improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when treatment with both linagliptin and metformin is suitable.

What does it do?

Jentadueto helps manage high blood sugar in multiple ways. It boosts natural hormone levels to increase insulin after meals, reduces sugar absorption from food and drinks, lowers sugar production in the liver, and improves the effectiveness of your body's own insulin.

How should I take it?

Take Jentadueto with food twice a day, unless your doctor advises differently. Always follow the instructions on your prescription label and maybe adjusted due to gastrointestinal side effects or renal impairment.

Do not take Jentadueto if you are allergic to linagliptin (Tradjenta) or metformin, or if you have severe kidney disease or diabetic ketoacidosis. In the case of diabetic ketoacidosis, contact your doctor for insulin treatment.

What if I missed a dose?

If you miss a dose of Jentadueto, take it with food as soon as you remember. But if your next dose is coming up soon, skip the missed dose. Do not double dose.

What are the special precautions before taking Jentadueto?

Before starting Jentadueto, inform your doctor if you have a history of any of the following conditions:

  • Alcohol use disorder
  • Pancreatitis
  • Gallstones
  • Heart, kidney, or liver disease
  • High triglycerides (blood fats)

Jentadueto may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, a rare but serious condition. This risk is higher if you are a heavy drinker, have certain health conditions, a serious infection, or are over the age of 65. Discuss your individual risk with your doctor.

If you are scheduled for surgery or a medical scan that involves an injected contrast dye, you may need to stop taking Jentadueto temporarily. Let all your healthcare providers know that you are taking this medication.

Does it have any side effects?

Stop taking Jentadueto and contact your doctor immediately if you experience signs of pancreatitis, such as loss of appetite, severe upper stomach pain that may spread to your back, nausea and vomiting, or a rapid heartbeat.

Lactic acidosis is a rare but serious condition that can be life-threatening. Mild symptoms may worsen over time. Seek emergency medical attention if you notice unusual difficulty breathing, muscle pain, stomach pain, irregular or unusually fast or slow heartbeat, or fatigue.

Call your doctor right away if you experience any of the following:
    Serious side effects may include:
  • Severe or persistent joint pain
  • A serious autoimmune reaction, such as itching or peeling of the skin
  • Signs of heart failure, including shortness of breath (even when lying down) or rapid weight gain
    Common side effects may include:
  • Diarrhea
  • Sore throat
  • Nasal congestion or sinus pain
This is not a full list of possible side effects. Contact your doctor for medical advice if you experience any other symptoms or have concerns while taking Jentadueto.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Some drug interactions may cause serious or life-threatening reactions when administered together. Immediately inform your doctor if you are taking Jentadueto with any of the following medications:

Before starting Jentadueto, be sure to mention if you are using:
  • Any diabetes medications, particularly insulin or drugs that increase insulin levels
  • A carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, such as Zonisamide (Zonegran), or Methimazole
  • CYP3A4 Enzymes

Many medications can raise blood sugar levels or interfere with how Jentadueto works. Speak with your doctor or pharmacist before starting or stopping any medications while taking Jentadueto, as you may need to monitor your blood sugar more closely.

This may not be a complete list of potential drug interactions, so always consult your healthcare provider before making changes to your medication regimen.

How should I store it?

Store Jentadueto at room temperature, between 68°F and 77°F (20°C to 25°C). It can be briefly exposed to temperatures between 59°F and 86°F (15°C to 30°C), such as during transportation. Keep the medication in a cool, dry place.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

Call emergency services right away if you experience signs of severely low blood sugar, such as nausea, shaking, rapid heartbeat, or seizures.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Women should inform their doctor if they are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It's unclear whether Jentadueto could harm an unborn baby, so pregnant women should discuss safe and effective ways to manage blood sugar during pregnancy with their doctor. Women who are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed should also talk to their doctor, as it is not known whether Jentadueto passes into breast milk.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
