Why is Lozol prescribed?

Lozol (Indapamide) is an oral diuretic and antihypertensive medication used to manage fluid retention (edema) in individuals with congestive heart failure. It is also prescribed to help control high blood pressure (hypertension).

What does it do?

Indapamide works by increasing urine production. It helps the kidneys eliminate excess water and electrolytes, such as sodium (salt), from the body.

How should I take it?

Take Lozol orally, following the directions on your prescription label. Take it at the same time each day, and continue taking it unless your healthcare provider advises you to stop.

What if I missed a dose?

If you miss a dose of Lozol, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it’s almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and take only the next one. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

What are the special precautions before taking Lozol?

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, your current and previous medical history.

This medication may interact with the following:

  • Lithium
  • Heart medications such as digoxin
  • Other drugs used to treat high blood pressure

If you experience severe diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, or excessive sweating, contact your doctor, as significant fluid loss can make taking this medication unsafe.

You may need a special diet and guidance on how much fluid to drink each day—be sure to discuss this with your care team.

This medication can cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid operating machinery, driving, or performing activities that require alertness until you know how it affects you. To reduce the risk of dizziness, especially if you are older, avoid standing or sitting up too quickly.

Indapamide may raise blood sugar levels. If you have diabetes, talk to your healthcare provider about possible adjustments to your diet or medications.

This is not a complete list of all possible interactions. Always provide your healthcare provider with a full list of all medications you are taking.

Does it have any side effects?

It is important to note that all drugs have corresponding side effects and adverse reactions. Additional information may be obtained when you ask your doctor or pharmacist.
    Common side effects may include:
  • Skin rash
  • Dizziness
  • Headache

Lozol can also lead to dehydration. Contact your doctor if you experience signs of dehydration, such as:

  • Decreased urination
  • Muscle cramps or pain
  • Rapid or irregular heartbeat
  • Unusually dry mouth or increased thirst
  • Weakness
    Serious side effects may include:
  • Eye-related symptoms: sudden vision loss, blurred or tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling
  • Heart-related symptoms: fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat; fluttering in the chest; shortness of breath
  • Neurological or severe systemic symptoms: intense headache, difficulty walking, loss of coordination, slurred speech, weakness in an arm or leg, muscle stiffness, or tremors
This list does not include all possible side effects. For more information, consult your doctor or healthcare provider.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Some drug interactions may cause serious or life-threatening reactions when administered together. Immediately inform your doctor if you are taking Lozol with any of the following medications:

Before starting indapamide, be sure to discuss if you are using any of the following:

  • Medications for high blood pressure
  • Lithium, commonly prescribed for certain mental health conditions
  • Digoxin (Lanoxin), used to treat irregular heartbeat and some types of heart failure
  • Diuretics (water pills), which help reduce fluid retention (edema) and lower blood pressure
It is not known how alcohol may affect indapamide, but drinking alcohol while taking this medication may increase the risk of dizziness. Therefore, it is advisable to limit your alcohol consumption.

How should I store it?

Indapamide should be stored at room temperature, between 68°F and 77°F (20°C to 25°C). Keep the medication in a cool, dry place, and ensure the container is tightly closed.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

If you believe you have taken too much of this medication, seek immediate help by contacting a poison control center or going to the nearest emergency room.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Indapamide should be used during pregnancy only if prescribed by your doctor. Diuretics (water pills) are generally not recommended for treating high blood pressure related to pregnancy.

It is not known whether Indapamide passes into breast milk or could affect a nursing infant. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding while taking this medication.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
