Why is Lynparza prescribed?

Lynparza (Olaparib) is commonly used to treat various types of cancer, including ovarian, pancreatic, breast, and prostate cancers. It can be used on its own or in combination with other medications.

What does it do?

Lynparza is a type of medication called a poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitor. PARP is a protein that helps cancer cells survive and grow by repairing damaged DNA. By blocking PARP, Lynparza prevents DNA repair, leading to the death of cancer cells.

How should I take it?

Take Lynparza orally twice a day, with or without food. Each dose should be taken approximately 12 hours apart. Swallow the tablets whole without crushing, dissolving, chewing, or splitting them.

What if I missed a dose?

If you miss a dose of Lynparza, simply take your next dose at the regular scheduled time. Do not take an extra dose to compensate for the missed dose.

What are the special precautions before taking Lynparza?

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, your current and previous medical history.

Be sure to inform your doctor if you have any of the following conditions:

  • Anemia
  • Kidney disease
  • Liver disease
  • Lung disease
  • Low blood counts (such as low platelets, white blood cells, or red blood cells)
  • If you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant
  • If you are breastfeeding

This medication may cause you to feel unwell, which is common as chemotherapy affects both healthy and cancer cells. Report any side effects, but continue your treatment unless your doctor advises otherwise. Regular blood tests will be needed during treatment.

The medicine can increase your risk of bruising or bleeding; contact your doctor if you notice any unusual bleeding. If you develop fever, sore throat, chills, or cold/flu symptoms, seek medical advice immediately instead of treating yourself, as this drug lowers your ability to fight infections. Avoid contact with sick people.

Do not become pregnant while on this drug or for 6 months after the last dose. Women should discuss pregnancy plans with their doctor, and men should avoid fathering a child or donating sperm during treatment and for 3 months after stopping due to risks to an unborn child. Women who can become pregnant should use effective birth control during treatment and for at least 6 months afterward.

Do not breastfeed during treatment or for 1 month after the final dose. Talk to your doctor for guidance on birth control and any concerns.

Does it have any side effects?

It is important to note that all drugs have corresponding side effects and adverse reactions. Additional information may be obtained when you ask your doctor or pharmacist.
    Serious side effects may include:
  • Allergic reactions such as hives, rash, itching, or swelling of the face or tongue
  • Breathing difficulties like shortness of breath or wheezing
  • Feeling weak or very tired
  • Low blood counts, which increase the risk of infections and bleeding
  • Signs of bleeding, including bloody or black stools, dark or red urine, coughing up blood, or bleeding from the gums, eyes, or nose
  • Symptoms of blood clots such as vision changes, chest pain with breathing problems, sudden severe headache, or sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg
  • Signs of low magnesium like muscle cramps, tremors, seizures, or irregular heartbeat
  • Signs of infection such as fever, chills, or painful/difficult urination
    Common side effects may include:
  • Changes in taste
  • Diarrhea
  • Heartburn or indigestion
  • Loss of appetite
  • Muscle or joint pain
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Stomach pain
This list may not cover all side effects. Contact your doctor for advice regarding any side effects you experience.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Some drug interactions may cause serious or life-threatening reactions when administered together. Immediately inform your doctor if you are taking Lynparza with any of the following medications:
  • Aprepitant
  • Carbamazepine
  • Crizotinib
  • Diltiazem
  • Nafcillin
  • Nefazodone
  • Seville oranges
  • Grapefruit juice
  • Boceprevir
  • Modafinil
  • St. John’s Wort
This list may not include all possible interactions. Always provide your doctor with a complete list of all medications, herbal products, over-the-counter drugs, and dietary supplements you take.

How should I store it?

Store Lynparza at room temperature between 68°F and 77°F (20°C to 25°C) in the original bottle to protect it from moisture, and keep it out of reach of children.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

If you take more Lynparza than prescribed, contact your healthcare provider or go to the nearest emergency room immediately.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Lynparza can harm an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. You must not be pregnant before starting treatment. Use effective birth control during treatment and for 6 months after your last dose if you can become pregnant. Male patients with female partners who can become pregnant should use birth control during treatment and for 3 months after the last dose.

Do not breastfeed while taking Lynparza and for 1 month after the final dose, as it’s unknown if the drug passes into breast milk. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
