Why is Mavik prescribed?

Mavik (Trandolapril) is an ACE (Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme) inhibitor used to lower high blood pressure (hypertension) and to enhance survival following a heart attack.

What does it do?

Trandolapril works by blocking the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), which prevents the formation of a hormone called angiotensin II. Normally, angiotensin II binds to receptors and causes blood vessels to narrow. By blocking its formation, Trandolapril helps blood vessels relax, allowing blood to flow more easily. This can improve heart function, lower blood pressure, and potentially reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.

How should I take it?

Take Mavik (Trandolapril) with or without food at the same time each day, and continue taking it as directed by your doctor, even if you feel well. Unless your doctor advises otherwise, drink plenty of non-caffeinated fluids.

What if I missed a dose?

If you miss a dose of Mavik, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take extra doses.

What are the special precautions before taking Mavik?

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, your current and previous medical history.

  • You are allergic to trandolapril or any other ingredient in Mavik.
  • You have taken a medication containing Sacubitril within the past 36 hours.
  • You are taking a medication containing Aliskiren and have diabetes or kidney problems.
  • You have allergies to any other drugs, foods, or substances—be sure to inform your doctor about the allergy and your symptoms.
  • You have ever experienced a severe or life-threatening reaction called angioedema, which may include swelling of the hands, eyes, face, lips, tongue, or throat; difficulty breathing or swallowing; or unusual hoarseness.
  • You are breastfeeding—do not breastfeed while taking Mavik (Trandolapril).
Avoid driving or performing any activities that require alertness until you know how Mavik (trandolapril) affects you, and to reduce the risk of dizziness or fainting, rise slowly from sitting or lying down and take care when going up or down stairs.

Does it have any side effects?

All medications can cause side effects, but many people experience none or only mild ones. Contact your doctor or seek medical attention if you experience any of the following side effects or any others that bother you or persist:

  • Cough
  • Dizziness
This list does not include all possible side effects. If you have any questions or concerns about side effects, please consult your doctor for medical advice.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Some drug interactions may cause serious or life-threatening reactions when administered together. Immediately inform your doctor if you are taking Mavik with any of the following medications:
  • Aliskiren (Tekturna), a medication for high blood pressure
  • Any other medications for high blood pressure
  • Any medications for diabetes
  • Lithium, used to treat certain mental health conditions
  • Entresto (Sacubitril/Valsartan), used for heart failure
  • Potassium-containing supplements or salt substitutes
  • Diuretics (water pills) used to reduce fluid retention and lower blood pressure
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen or naproxen, found in many prescription and OTC products for pain, swelling, and fever
  • ACE inhibitors, used for high blood pressure, heart failure, and some kidney conditions
  • Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs), prescribed for high blood pressure, heart failure, and other heart conditions
  • Medications like Sirolimus (Rapamune), Everolimus (Afinitor, Zortress), or Temsirolimus (Torisel), commonly used for cancer or post-organ transplant
This list may not include all possible drug interactions with trandolapril. Always consult your healthcare provider for guidance.

How should I store it?

Trandolapril should be kept at room temperature, ideally between 68°F and 77°F (20°C to 25°C), in a cool, dry location.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

If you or someone else has taken too much Trandolapril, seek medical attention immediately.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Mavik is not recommended for use during pregnancy because it may harm the fetus. It is unclear whether this medication passes into breast milk, so consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
