Why is Revatio prescribed?

Revatio (Sildenafil), a cyclic GMP inhibitor, is prescribed for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension to enhance exercise capacity and slow clinical progression. It is also used to treat erectile dysfunction.

What does it do?

Revatio lowers lung blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessel muscles, which widens the vessels and improves blood flow to specific areas of the body. It is used to treat adults as well as children and adolescents aged 1 to 17 years with pulmonary arterial hypertension, a condition involving high blood pressure in the lungs blood vessels.

How should I take it?

Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. For adults, the recommended dose is 20 mg three times a day, spaced 6 to 8 hours apart, and can be taken with or without food.

What if I missed a dose?

If you forget to take a dose of Revatio, take it as soon as you remember, then resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not take two doses to make up for a missed dose.

What are the special precautions before taking Revatio?

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, your current and previous medical history.

Before taking Revatio, consult your doctor if you:

  • Have a condition caused by a blocked or narrowed vein in the lungs, rather than a blocked or narrowed artery.
  • Have issues with the heart's pumping chambers.
  • Have severe heart problems.
  • Have high blood pressure in the blood vessels of the lungs.
  • Have low blood pressure while at rest.
  • Dehydrated, which can occur from excessive sweating or not drinking enough fluids, especially if you are ill with a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea.
  • Take medications for erectile dysfunction.
  • Have a rare inherited eye condition (retinitis pigmentosa).
  • Have a red blood cell disorder (such as sickle cell anemia), blood cell cancer (leukemia), bone marrow cancer (multiple myeloma), or any penis-related disease or deformity.
  • Currently have a stomach ulcer, a bleeding disorder (e.g., hemophilia), or frequent nosebleeds.
  • When used for treating erectile dysfunction (ED), PDE5 inhibitors like sildenafil, found in Revatio, have been associated with visual side effects, including partial, sudden, temporary, or permanent vision loss in one or both eyes, though these are rare. If you experience sudden vision changes or loss, stop taking Revatio and contact your doctor immediately.

Prolonged, sometimes painful erections have also been reported in men after taking sildenafil. If you have an erection lasting longer than 4 hours, stop taking Revatio and seek immediate medical attention.

Does it have any side effects?

It is important to note that all drugs have corresponding side effects and adverse reactions.

      Common side effects may include:
  • Stuffy nose
  • Back pain
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Upset stomach
  • Low blood pressure
  • If you experience any of the following serious side effects, seek medical care or call your doctor immediately:
      Serious side effects may include:
  • Serious eye symptoms, such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights.
  • Serious heart symptoms, including fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; chest fluttering.
  • Severe headache, slurred speech, confusion, weakness in the arms or legs, trouble walking, stiff muscles, loss of coordination, unsteadiness, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors.
  • This list does not cover all potential side effects. Contact your doctor for more information about side effects.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Do not take Revatio with similar medications, such as Tadalafil (Cialis), Avanafil (Stendra), or Vardenafil (Levitra). Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking.:

Make sure to tell your doctor about any other medicines you use, particularly::

  • Medications for high blood pressure or prostate conditions
  • HIV/AIDS treatments, such as ritonavir and others
  • Antifungal medicines, such as ketoconazole or itraconazole
  • This is not a complete list. Other medications, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements, may interact with sildenafil. Not all possible drug interactions are listed here.

    How should I store it?

Store at or below 30°C. Keep the medicine in its original packaging to protect it from moisture. Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

Do not take more medicine than your doctor has prescribed. If you take more Revatio than recommended, contact your doctor immediately.

Taking an excessive amount may increase the risk of known side effects.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant while using Revatio; it is not expected to harm the fetus. It is unclear whether Revatio passes into breast milk or could affect a nursing baby. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
