Why is Sevikar prescribed?

Sevikar is prescribed for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). It contains Amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker that relaxes blood vessels, and Olmesartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker that helps lower blood pressure. Together, these components work to reduce vascular resistance and improve blood flow.

What does it do?

Sevikar combines two powerful antihypertensive agents, amlodipine and olmesartan, to effectively lower blood pressure. Amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker, relaxes blood vessels by preventing calcium from entering smooth muscle cells, leading to vasodilation and reduced vascular resistance. Meanwhile, olmesartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), prevents the hormone angiotensin II from tightening blood vessels, allowing arteries to dilate and improving blood flow. Together, these components enhance the antihypertensive effect, making Sevikar more effective than using either medication alone.

How should I take it?

Sevikar should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Sevikar is typically taken once daily, with or without food, and the prescribed dose depends on your condition and your doctor's recommendation. The recommended initial dose of Sevikar is 5/20 mg taken once daily. If necessary, the dosage may be gradually increased after two weeks of treatment, up to a maximum of 10/40 mg per day, to achieve optimal blood pressure control.

What if I missed a dose?

If you miss a dose of Sevikar, take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is approaching, skip the missed one and continue following your usual schedule. Avoid taking extra or double doses to compensate for the missed dose.

What are the special precautions before taking Sevikar?

Before taking Sevikar, here are several important precautions to keep in mind:

  • Avoid taking Selzentry if you're allergic to Olmesartan, Amlodipine, or similar medications.
  • Disclose all your current or past medical conditions to your doctor, particularly if you have:
    • Kidney problems
    • Liver problems
    • Heart problems
    • Diabetes
    • Problems with your adrenal glands
  • Monitor kidney function if you have renal impairment or use other blood pressure medications.
  • Avoid sharing this medication with others, even if they have a similar condition, as it may cause unexpected health risks or adverse effects.
  • Avoid taking Sevikar if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as it may pass into the womb or breast milk, potentially affecting your baby.
Always inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, your current and previous medical history.

Does it have any side effects?

It is important to note that all drugs have corresponding side effects and adverse reactions. Additional information may be obtained when you ask your doctor or pharmacist.

    Common side effects may include:
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Flushing
  • Swelling (Edema)
    Serious side effects may include:
  • Chest pain or irregular heartbeat
  • Severe hypotension (low blood pressure)
  • Severe rash or allergic reactions
  • Swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)
This is not a complete list of potential side effects, and additional reactions may occur. For detailed information and medical guidance, consult your healthcare provider.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Sevikar can interact with various medications, so it's important to check for potential interactions before taking it with another drug. Some interactions may increase side effects or reduce effectiveness.

Before taking Sevikar, consult your doctor if you are using any of the following medications:

  • Certain antacids
  • Potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics
  • Lithium
  • Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs)
This is not a complete list of all the potential drug interactions, always consult your doctor or pharmacist before combining Sevikar with other medications to ensure safety.

How should I store it?

Sevikar should be stored in its original container at room temperature, ideally between 15°C and 30°C (59°F to 86°F).

What action should I take in case of overdose?

If you suspect an overdose of Sevikar (Olmesartan Medoxomil/Amlodipine), it's important to act quickly and seek immediate medical attention. Contact emergency services or go to the nearest hospital. Overdosing on Sevikar can lead to severe hypotension (low blood pressure), rapid or slow heart rate, and shock.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Sevikar is not recommended during pregnancy because olmesartan can harm the baby’s development, especially in the second and third trimesters, potentially causing kidney failure, skull deformities, and lung underdevelopment.

For breastfeeding, amlodipine can pass into breast milk, though in small amounts, while the effects of olmesartan are unclear. To ensure safety, doctors usually advise switching to safer alternatives. If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, consult your healthcare provider for guidance on its use to ensure safety for both you and your baby.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
