Why is Silenor prescribed?

Silenor (Doxepin) is a tricyclic antidepressant prescribed to help adults with insomnia (difficulty sleeping) stay asleep.

What does it do?

Silenor belongs to a group of medicines called tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs). It may work by increasing the amount of natural chemicals called norepinephrine and serotonin in the brain. Silenor tablets may work by affecting a substance in the body called histamine to achieve its sleep-inducing effects.

How should I take it?

Take Silenor (Doxepin) 30 minutes before bedtime. Only take it if you can get a full night's sleep, as taking it without enough sleep may leave you feeling drowsy the next day. Also, note avoid taking Silenor (Doxepin) within 3 hours of eating as food can delay the onset of the medication's effects and don't mix Silenor with alcohol since it will cause you too to become sleepy.

What if I missed a dose?

Take Silenor as soon as you remember. Do not take two doses at once and avoid taking Silenor if you won't have enough time for a full night's sleep before you need to be active again.

What are the special precautions before taking Silenor?

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, your current and previous medical history.

Allergies to Ingredients: Individuals who are allergic to any of the following should avoid using Silenor.

Glaucoma: Silenor may increase eye pressure and could trigger or worsen narrow-angle glaucoma, which may lead to blindness.

Urinary Retention: Silenor may make it difficult to empty your bladder, especially if you already have a blockage or take other medications for an overactive bladder.

Photosensitivity: Silenor can increase your skin's sensitivity to light from the sun, sunlamps, or tanning beds, leading to severe sunburns, blisters, and swelling. If you are exposed to sunlight, wear sunscreen, protective clothing, and a hat.

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT): If you are undergoing ECT, discuss it with your healthcare provider, as Silenor may increase the risk of complications from this therapy.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
