Why is Veregen prescribed?

Veregen is a topical medication prescribed for the treatment of external genital and perianal warts (condylomata acuminata) in immunocompetent adults aged 18 and older.

What does it do?

Veregen contains sinecatechins, a botanical extract obtained from green tea leaves, which is thought to help clear HPV-related warts through a combination of antioxidant, antiviral, and immunostimulatory effects, although its exact mechanism of action remains unknown.

How should I take it?

Always follow your doctor’s instructions, or the directions on the product label when taking this medication. To treat external genital and perianal warts, apply Veregen ointment three times daily using a 0.5 cm strand per wart, gently dabbing to leave a thin layer without fully rubbing it in.

Make sure to wash your hands before and after each application, avoid covering treated areas with bandages or dressings, and do not wash off the ointment until it’s time for the next dose. Continue this regimen until the warts have cleared, but do not use the treatment for longer than 16 weeks.

What if I missed a dose?

If a dose of Veregen is missed, apply it as soon as you remember, unless it's already close to the time for your next scheduled dose. In that case, simply skip the missed application and continue with your regular dosing routine. Never apply extra Veregen ointment to make up for a missed dose, as doubling up may lead to skin irritation without enhancing the treatment’s effectiveness.

What are the special precautions before taking Veregen Ointment?

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, your current and previous medical history.

  • Do not take Veregen Ointment if you're allergic to Sinecatechins or any of the ingredients in the medication.
  • Avoid using Veregen Ointment on open wounds or mucosal surfaces and excessive exposure to sun/UV.
  • To ensure effective treatment with Veregen, avoid covering the warts with bandages, sanitary napkins, or any other protective material, as this may interfere with the ointment’s action.
  • Avoid sharing Veregen Ointment with others even if their condition appears similar, as doing so may result in unexpected health risks or dangerous side effects.

Does it have any side effects?

It is important to note that all drugs have corresponding side effects and adverse reactions. Additional information may be obtained when you ask your doctor or pharmacist.
    Common side effects may include:
  • Redness
  • Itching
  • Burning or stinging
  • Pain or discomfort
  • Swelling (edema)
    Serious side effects may include:
  • Hives
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Painful sores or blisters
  • Severe skin irritation
Please note that this is not an exhaustive list of possible side effects, and other reactions may also happen. For personalized advice and comprehensive information, speak with your healthcare provider.

Why is Veregen prescribed?

Currently, no interactions have been identified between Veregen and other medications. However, it’s important to inform your healthcare provider of all medications you are taking.

How should I store it?

Veregen Ointment should be kept in its original container and stored at room temperature, ideally between 20°C and 25°C (68°F to 77°F), to maintain its effectiveness. Be sure to protect it from excess heat, moisture, and light, and keep it out of reach of children and pets. Always check the packaging for specific storage instructions and never use it past its expiration date.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

In case of an overdose of Veregen Ointment, although systemic toxicity is unlikely due to its topical use, you should immediately wash the affected area with mild soap and water to remove excess ointment and seek medical attention if symptoms such as severe skin irritation, painful sores, blistering, intense burning, or allergic reactions occur.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Veregen Ointment is not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to the lack of sufficient human data on safety. Although animal studies did not show birth defects, fetal development was affected when maternal toxicity occurred. Therefore, women who are pregnant or nursing should consult a healthcare provider before using this medication.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
