Why is Viibryd prescribed?

Viibryd is an antidepressant that belongs to a class of medications known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It is used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD).

What does it do?

Viibryd is classified as both a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) and a partial agonist of the serotonin (5HT1A) receptor. Although the exact mechanism for treating depression is not fully understood, it is believed to work by increasing serotonin levels in the brain and also directly affecting serotonin receptors.

How should I take it?

Take this medication orally with water and the usual starting dose is 10 mg daily following the instructions on the prescription label. Take it at the same time each day, and always with food. Continue taking it unless your doctor advises you to stop.

What if I missed a dose?

If you miss to take Viibryd, take it as soon as you remember. If it's nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed one and take only your scheduled dose. Do not double dose.

What are the special precautions before taking Viibryd?

Do not take Viibryd if you have used an MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days, as this could lead to a dangerous drug interaction. MAO inhibitors include Isocarboxazid, Linezolid, Methylene blue injection, Phenelzine, Tranylcypromine, and others.

After discontinuing Viibryd, you must wait at least 14 days before starting an MAOI.

You should inform your healthcare provider if you have any of the following conditions:

  • Bipolar disorder or a family history of bipolar disorder
  • Breastfeeding
  • Glaucoma
  • Liver disease
  • Low sodium levels in the blood
  • Seizures (convulsions)
  • Suicidal thoughts, plans, or attempts, either by you or a family member
  • This medication may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Until you know how it affects you, avoid driving, operating machinery, or engaging in activities that require full mental alertness. To reduce the risk of dizziness or fainting, avoid standing or sitting up too quickly, especially if you are older. Alcohol can interfere with the medication’s effectiveness, so it's best to avoid alcoholic beverages.

Does it have any side effects?

Some drug interactions may cause serious or life-threatening reactions when administered together. Immediately inform your doctor if you are taking Viibryd with any of the following medications: Side effects to report to your doctor immediately:
      Serious side effects may include:
  • Allergic reactions: Skin rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, tongue, lips, or throat

  • Seizures
  • Serotonin syndrome: Symptoms may include irritability, confusion, fast or irregular heartbeat, muscle stiffness, , chills, vomiting, muscle twitching, sweating, high fever, seizures or diarrhea
  • Low sodium levels: Muscle weakness, headache, fatigue, dizziness, confusion

  • Diarrhea
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Dry mouth
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • This list may not cover all possible side effects. Contact your doctor for advice regarding any side effects that you may experience.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Inform your doctor if you are also taking stimulant medications, opioid pain relievers, herbal products, or medications for depression, mental health conditions, Parkinson's disease, migraines, serious infections, or nausea and vomiting. Combining these with Viibryd could lead to a serious condition known as serotonin syndrome.

This medication may also interact with the following:
  • Linezolid
  • MAO inhibitors (MAOIs)
  • Methylene blue (injected into a vein)
  • Amphetamines
  • Aspirin and aspirin-like drugs
  • Buspirone
  • Dexfenfluramine
  • Fenfluramine
  • Phentermine
  • St. John’s Wort
  • Tramadol
  • Tryptophan
  • This list may not cover all potential interactions. Be sure to provide your doctor with a complete list of all medications.

    How should I store it?

Viibryd should be stored at room temperature, between 68°F and 77°F (20°C to 25°C). It may be briefly exposed to temperatures between 59°F and 86°F (15°C to 30°C), such as during transportation. Keep it in a cool, dry place.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

If you or someone else has taken too much Viibryd, seek medical help immediately by calling your doctor or going to the nearest emergency department.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Taking Viibryd later in pregnancy may increase the risk of certain issues for your unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. They will guide you on whether it is safe to take vilazodone during pregnancy or while trying to conceive. It is not known if Viibryd passes into breast milk. Let your doctor know if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
