Why is Xiidra prescribed?

Xiidra (Lifitegrast) is an eye drop solution prescribed for adults over 17 years old to treat the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease (DED).

What does it do?

Xiidra (Lifitegrast) works by blocking the interaction between LFA-1, a protein on white blood cells, and ICAM-1, an adhesion molecule found in the corneal and conjunctival tissues of people with dry eye disease (DED). This interaction is linked to T-cell activation, migration, and the release of inflammatory cytokines. By preventing this process, Xiidra may reduce the secretion of these cytokines, helping to improve DED symptoms, though the exact mechanism is not fully understood.

How should I take it?

This medication is for eye use only. Do not take it orally. Follow the instructions on the prescription label. Wash your hands before and after use. Tilt your head back slightly, and use your index finger to pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye or the pouch. Administer one drop into the pouch, then gently close your eye to spread the drops. Do not use the medication more frequently than directed.

If you are wearing contact lenses, remove them before applying Xiidra, and you may reinsert them 15 minutes after administration.

What are the special precautions before taking Xiidra?

Before using Xiidra, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients that could cause allergic reactions or other issues. Consult your pharmacist for more information.

Before using this medication, discuss your medical history with your doctor or pharmacist.

Does it have any side effects?

Common side effects of Xiidra may include blurred vision, eye irritation, eye discomfort, or a strange or unpleasant taste in the mouth. Seek emergency medical help if you experience signs of an allergic reaction to Xiidra, such as hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, tongue, lips, or throat. Discontinue use and contact your doctor immediately if you experience:
  • Vision problems
  • Severe eye redness or irritation
  • This is not a comprehensive list of side effects, and others may occur. Consult your doctor for medical advice regarding side effects.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Xiidra is not known to interact with other types of medications, but it's still important to inform your doctor about any prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, or supplements you are taking.

Your doctor or pharmacist can provide more information about potential interactions while using Xiidra.

    How should I store it?

Store Xiidra eye drops at room temperature, between 20-25°C (68-77°F), away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep the eye drop container in its original foil pouch until you are ready to use it. Keep Xiidra and all other medications out of the reach of children.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
