Why is Zoladex prescribed?

Zoladex is a synthetic hormone that regulates various bodily processes. It works by overstimulating the body’s production of certain hormones, causing their production to temporarily stop.

In men, Zoladex implants are used to manage symptoms of prostate cancer. For women, Zoladex is used to treat breast cancer, endometriosis, and to prepare the uterine lining for endometrial ablation, a procedure for treating abnormal uterine bleeding.

Why is Zoladex prescribed?

It works by lowering the levels of testosterone and estrogen hormones. This reduction helps to slow down or halt the growth of specific cancer cells and uterine tissue that rely on these hormones to grow and spread.

How should I take it?

Zoladex is administered as a small implant inserted into the skin of your abdomen using a needle, once every 28 days. This procedure is done at a clinic or doctor's office.

Your dosing schedule may vary if you're also undergoing chemotherapy, so it's important to follow your doctor's instructions. Timely administration of your Zoladex implants each month is crucial.

What if I missed a dose?

If you miss an appointment to receive your Zoladex implant, contact your doctor for guidance on what to do next.

What are the special precautions before taking Zoladex Implant?

Before using goserelin, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, LHRH, or similar hormones (such as triptorelin), or if you have other allergies, as inactive ingredients may cause allergic reactions. Share your medical history, particularly if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding, diabetes, long-term alcohol use, smoking, osteoporosis, heart disease, high cholesterol/triglycerides, stroke, urinary or spinal cord problems (in men), or mental health issues.

If you have diabetes, goserelin may affect your blood sugar control. Regularly monitor your blood sugar and consult your doctor if you experience high blood sugar symptoms. Your doctor may need to adjust your treatment.

Goserelin can cause QT prolongation, which may lead to serious heart rhythm issues, dizziness, or fainting. This requires immediate medical attention. The risk is higher if you have certain heart conditions or take medications affecting heart rhythm. Low potassium or magnesium levels can also increase this risk, especially if using diuretics or experiencing dehydration, diarrhea, or vomiting. Discuss the safe use of goserelin with your doctor.

Does it have any side effects?

When you begin Zoladex treatment, your tumor symptoms may temporarily worsen. If you have prostate cancer, the tumor’s growth could increase pressure on your spinal cord or urinary tract. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms like back pain, painful or difficult urination, loss of movement in any part of your body, or loss of bowel or bladder control.

Call your doctor right away if you notice: Pain, bruising, swelling, redness, oozing, or bleeding at the injection site
  • Dizziness, trouble breathing, or feeling light-headed (like you might faint)
  • Symptoms of high blood sugar, such as increased thirst, frequent urination, dry mouth, or fruity breath odor
  • Symptoms of high calcium levels, such as confusion, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, constipation, increased thirst or urination, or weight loss
  • Signs of a heart attack, such as chest pain or pressure, pain radiating to the jaw or shoulder, nausea, or sweating
  • Symptoms of a blood clot, such as sudden numbness or weakness on one side of the body, chest pain, vision or speech problems, or pain or swelling in one leg
  • This list does not cover all possible side effects. Consult your doctor for further medical advice regarding side effects.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Goserelin may cause serious heart problems, and your risk could be higher if you are also taking medications for infections, asthma, heart issues, high blood pressure, depression, mental illness, cancer, malaria, or HIV

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are currently taking, particularly blood thinners like Coumadin, warfarin, or Jantoven.

Other drugs, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements, may interact with goserelin. Be sure to tell your doctor about any medications you are taking or plan to start or stop using.

    How should I store it?

Storage requirements may vary depending on the brand of this medication. Refer to the product packaging for specific storage instructions or consult your pharmacist. Keep all medications out of reach of children and pets.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

Because the Zoladex implant contains a precise dosage of the medication, an overdose is unlikely.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Pregnancy: Zoladex should not be used during pregnancy, as there is a potential risk of miscarriage or fetal abnormalities associated with the use of LHRH agonists during pregnancy. Women who could become pregnant should be thoroughly examined to rule out pregnancy before starting treatment. Non-hormonal contraception should be used during therapy until menstruation resumes.

Breastfeeding: The use of Zoladex is not recommended while breastfeeding.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
