Why is Arcoxia prescribed?

Arcoxia (Etoricoxib) is used to treat osteoarthritis, the most common type of arthritis. This condition is a joint disease caused by the gradual wear and tear of the cartilage that cushions the ends of bones. Osteoarthritis affects millions globally, with women being the most commonly impacted. Risk factors include obesity, previous joint injuries, repetitive joint strain, genetics, bone deformities, and other metabolic conditions.

What does it do?

Your body naturally produces cyclo-oxygenase enzymes, COX-1 and COX-2. COX-1 is present in the gastrointestinal tract, while COX-2 is found where inflammation occurs. The active ingredient in Arcoxia, Etoricoxib, selectively inhibits COX-2.

When Arcoxia is taken, it works by blocking the production of substances that cause pain and inflammation. This helps treat osteoarthritis, a condition characterized by cartilage breakdown around the joints, leading to severe pain and inflammation.

How should I take it?

Take Arcoxia (Etoricoxib) once a day, following your doctor's instructions carefully. Swallow the tablet with a glass of water. You can take the tablet with or without food, though it may work faster if taken on an empty stomach.

What if I missed a dose?

If it’s nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose as scheduled. If it’s not close to your next dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember, then resume your usual dosing schedule. If you're unsure whether to skip the dose, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Do not take two doses to make up for the missed one.

What are the special precautions before taking Arcoxia?

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, your current and previous medical history. Do not take Arcoxia if:
  • You are allergic to Arcoxia or any of its ingredients.
  • You have a history of heart failure, heart attack, bypass surgery, chest pain (angina), peripheral arterial disease, stroke, or mini stroke (TIA).
  • Your high blood pressure is not well-controlled with medication.
  • You are undergoing major surgery and have conditions that increase the risk of coronary artery disease, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, or smoking.
  • You are having major surgery on your heart or arteries.
  • If you're unsure whether you should start Arcoxia, consult your doctor. Arcoxia has not been studied in children, so it should not be given to them.

Does it have any side effects?

Before starting Arcoxia, it’s important to be aware of potential side effects. Contact your doctor if you experience any of the following:
  • Diarrhea, swelling in the legs, ankles, or feet
  • Heartburn, mouth ulcers, nausea, vomiting, or changes in taste
  • Headache, dizziness, increased blood pressure, or unusual tiredness
  • Increased bleeding/bruising or prolonged bleeding
  • Difficulty sleeping, depression, or anxiety
  • Signs of a urinary tract infection or respiratory infection
  • Hallucinations, blurred vision, confusion, or skin rash/itchiness
  • Pinkish, itchy swelling on the skin, chest pain, low urine output
  • Always consult your doctor if you experience any concerning symptoms.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Some drug interactions may cause serious or life-threatening reactions when administered together.
  • ACE inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers (used for high blood pressure or heart failure)
  • Birth control pills
  • Diuretics (water pills)
  • Lithium (used to treat certain types of depression)
  • Hormone replacement therapy
  • Rifampicin (an antibiotic used to treat tuberculosis and other infections)
  • Methotrexate (used to suppress the immune system)
  • Warfarin (a blood thinner)
  • These drugs may either affect how Arcoxia works or be affected by it. Your doctor may adjust your medication dosages or suggest alternatives.

Arcoxia can be used with low-dose aspirin. If you are taking low-dose aspirin to prevent heart attack or stroke, continue taking it unless your doctor advises otherwise. However, Arcoxia cannot replace aspirin for this purpose.

For more details on medications to be cautious with while taking Arcoxia, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

    How should I store it?

Keep Arcoxia in a cool, dry place, with the temperature staying below 30°C. Heat and moisture can damage medications.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

If you take too much Arcoxia (an overdose), contact your doctor immediately or go to the nearest emergency department, even if you don't experience any symptoms of discomfort.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, Arcoxia should not be used during the first two trimesters, as it may harm the fetus. If using Arcoxia during pregnancy is necessary, your doctor will discuss the potential benefits and risks with you. If you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed, it is unknown whether Arcoxia passes into breast milk. You and your doctor should decide whether to stop breastfeeding or avoid taking Arcoxia.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
