Why is Atelvia prescribed?

Atelvia (Risedronate) helps reduce calcium loss from bones and is used to treat osteoporosis. It may also be prescribed for individuals at risk of bone loss.

What does it do?

Atelvia slows the natural process of bone breakdown, helping to keep bones stronger and lowering the risk of fractures.

How should I take it?

Take the medication in the morning, immediately after breakfast. Swallow the tablet whole with at least 100ml of water. Do not crush, chew, or cut the tablet. Remain upright for 30 minutes after taking risedronate to help it reach your stomach quickly and prevent irritation to your esophagus.

Follow your doctor's dosing instructions carefully based on your condition, as not doing so may affect how the medication works. Do not stop taking this medication abruptly without consulting your physician.

What if I missed a dose?

If you miss a dose of risedronate, do not take it later in the day. Instead, take the missed dose the following morning and continue with your regular schedule. Avoid taking double or extra doses. If you're unsure how to manage a missed dose, consult your healthcare provider. The steps to take may vary depending on your dosing schedule and how long it's been since the missed dose.

If you miss more than two doses in a month, contact your healthcare provider for guidance.

What are the special precautions before taking Atelvia?

You should not take Atelvia if you are allergic to risedronate or if you have:
  • Low calcium levels in your blood (hypocalcemia)
  • Issues with the muscles in your esophagus (the tube connecting your mouth to your stomach)
  • Do not take Atelvia if you are unable to sit upright or stand for at least 30 minutes, as risedronate can cause serious stomach or esophagus issues. It is important to remain upright for at least 30 minutes after taking Atelvia.

Risedronate may lead to jaw bone problems (osteonecrosis), with the highest risk in individuals with blood cell disorders, cancer, existing dental problems, or those undergoing treatments like steroids, chemotherapy, or radiation. Discuss your specific risks with your doctor.

To ensure this medicine is safe for you, inform your doctor if you have ever experienced:

  • Any condition affecting nutrient absorption (malabsorption)
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Stomach or digestive problems
  • Hypocalcemia
  • Dental issues (you may need a dental check-up before starting Atelvia)
  • Kidney disease
  • Limit your alcohol consumption, as excessive drinking can also lead to bone loss and if you experience chest pain, worsening heartburn, or pain when swallowing, stop taking Atelvia and contact your doctor immediately.

Does it have any side effects?

It is important to note that all drugs have corresponding side effects and adverse reactions.
      Common side effects may include:
  • Constipation
  • Depressed mood
  • Diarrhea
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Nausea

  • Muscle pain
  • If you experience this side effects you should contact your doctor or healthcare provider about immediately and this list may not include all possible side effects. Contact your doctor for medical advice if you experience any side effects.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

  • Antacids and laxatives
  • Aspirin
  • Calcium or iron supplements
  • NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), such as Ibuprofen,Naproxen and Celecoxib
  • This is not a complete list. Other drugs, including prescription, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products, may interact with risedronate. Not all potential interactions are listed here, so discuss the best dosing schedule for your other medications with your doctor.

    How should I store it?

Store the medication in a tightly closed container at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and direct light. Avoid freezing. Keep it out of reach of children.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

Drink a full glass of milk and seek immediate medical attention or go to the nearest emergency department. Do not induce vomiting and avoid lying down.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

It is not known if risedronate can harm an unborn baby. If you become pregnant or think you might be pregnant, stop taking Atelvia and you should not breastfeed while using Atelvia.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
