Why is Azarga prescribed?

Azarga is a prescription medication that combines multiple medicines to treat eye pressure (ocular hypertension) and glaucoma.

What does it do?

Azarga works by reducing the fluid pressure in the eye (aqueous humor), which helps lower elevated eye pressure.

How should I take it?

This medicine is for external use only. Follow your doctor's instructions regarding the dose and duration of use. Read the label for guidance before applying. Hold the dropper close to your eye without making contact. Gently squeeze the dropper to release Azarga into the lower eyelid. Wipe away any excess liquid.

What if I missed a dose?

If it's nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the scheduled time. Otherwise, use the drops as soon as you remember, then continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not use double the amount to make up for the missed dose, as using extra doses may lead to unwanted side effects.

What are the special precautions before taking Azarga?

If you think you may have an allergy, consult your doctor or healthcare provider for advice.

Avoid using Azarga if you have or have had any of the following medical conditions:

  • Corneal issues such as low endothelial cell counts or corneal dystrophies
  • Diabetes mellitus (since timolol may mask signs of low blood sugar)
  • Kidney problems
  • Raynaud's disease
  • Severe heart disease
  • Prinzmetal angina, blood circulation issues, or low blood pressure
  • Impaired corneas, which can occur in diabetes mellitus
  • Narrow-angle glaucoma
  • Muscle weakness consistent with certain myasthenic symptoms
  • Thyrotoxicosis (excess thyroid hormone) as timolol may mask signs of thyroid problems
Do not use Azarga if you are allergic to:
  • Brinzolamide
  • Timolol or other beta blockers used to treat high blood pressure, heart issues, migraines, anxiety, angina, or glaucoma
  • Sulphonamides or sulfur-containing medications
Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing tasks that require focus or coordination until you understand how Azarga affects your vision. Like other eye medications, Azarga may cause temporary blurred vision or other visual disturbances, which can impair your ability to drive or use machinery. If you experience blurred vision after using the drops, wait until your vision clears before engaging in these activities.

Does it have any side effects?

Medications can cause side effects, which are unwanted reactions that occur even when taken at normal doses. Not everyone experiences the listed side effects. If you are concerned about potential side effects, talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of the medication.
    Common side effects may include:
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Blurred vision
  • Changes in the eyelid
  • Eye discomfort, dryness, or redness
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Taste changes
  • Feeling of something in the eye
  • Increased tear production
  • Runny nose
    • Serious side effects may include:
      • Severe skin reactions, such as peeling, blistering, widespread rash, rapid spreading of rash, or a rash accompanied by fever or discomfort
      • Severe allergic reactions, such as difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling of the face or throat
      • If you notice any symptoms that worry you while using this medication, consult your doctor, as other side effects may occur.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Inform your doctor if you are taking or using any other medications, including other eye drops or ointments. Some medications may interact with Azarga or enhance its effects. These include:
        • Antifungals such as Ketoconazole, Clotrimazole, Itraconazole, and Ritonavir
        • Clonidine
        • Diabetes medications
        • Digoxin, used to treat heart failure
        • Calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers
        • Medicines like quinidine or amiodarone for slow or irregular heartbeats
        • NSAIDs or salicylates
        • Other glaucoma medications or eye drops
        • These medicines may affect how Azarga works, or Azarga may alter their effectiveness. You may need to adjust the dosage of your current medications or switch to different ones.

          How should I store it?

Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Shake well before each use. Discard 4 weeks after opening for the first time.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

If you accidentally place multiple drops in your eye(s), rinse your eye(s) immediately with warm water. If you suspect that you or someone else has swallowed any or all of the contents of a bottle of Azarga, contact your doctor or emergency department right away.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Azarga may not be safe to use during pregnancy. While there are limited studies have shown potential harm to the developing baby. Your doctor will assess the benefits and risks before prescribing it. Please consult your doctor for guidance. Azarga is likely unsafe to use while breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the medication may pass into breast milk and potentially harm the baby.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
