Why is Cabometyx prescribed?

Cabometyx (Cabozantinib), when administered in combination with Nivolumab, has been approved for several indications listed below:

  • It is the first-line treatment of patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC).
  • Cabometyx (Cabozantinib) has been approved for the treatment of patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC).
  • Cabometyx (Cabozantinib) is indicated for the treatment of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who have previously received treatment with sorafenib.
  • Cabometyx (Cabozantinib) is approved for the treatment of adult and pediatric patients aged 12 years and older with locally advanced or metastatic differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) that has progressed following prior VEGFR-targeted therapy, and who are either refractory to radioactive iodine or deemed ineligible.
  • What does it do?

Cabometyx works by inhibiting the activity of an abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to grow and multiply, helping to slow or prevent the spread of cancer.

    How should I take it?

Take Cabometyx exactly as directed by your healthcare provider together with Nivolumab. Do not take this medication with food. Take Cabometyx at least 1 hour before or at least 2 hours after eating. Swallow the Cabometyx tablets whole; do not break or crush them.

What if I missed a dose?

If you miss Cabometyx and your next dose is less than 12 hours away, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the usual time. Do not take two doses to make up for the missed one.

What are the special precautions before taking Cabometyx?

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, your current and previous medical history. To ensure Cabometyx is safe for you, inform your doctor if you have:

  • An open or healing wound on your skin
  • High blood pressure
  • Liver disease
  • Low calcium levels in your blood (hypocalcemia)
  • Bleeding issues (such as coughing up blood or vomit resembling coffee grounds, or bloody or tarry stools)
  • Pre-existing dental issues
  • You may need to get a negative pregnancy test result before starting treatment.

Avoid drinking grapefruit juice, eating grapefruit, or consuming any foods or supplements that contain grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking this medication.

Does it have any side effects?

Cabometyx may cause a perforation (hole or tear) or a fistula (abnormal passage) in your stomach or intestines. Contact your doctor if you experience severe stomach pain, or if you feel like you're choking or gagging while eating or drinking.
      Common side effects may include:
  • Abnormal liver function tests or other blood test results
  • Cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sore throat, sneezing, or cough
  • Rash
  • Lighter hair color
  • Pain in muscles, bones, and joints
  • Trouble speaking or changes in taste
  • Pain, redness, swelling, or sores in your mouth or throat
  • Loss of appetite, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation
  • Tiredness, depressed mood, dry skin, thinning hair
  • Weight loss
    • Serious side effects may include:
  • Bloody or tarry stools, coughing up blood, or vomit that looks like coffee grounds
  • Confusion, weakness, difficulty thinking, vision changes, or seizure
  • Feeling lightheaded or like you might faint
  • Swelling in your hands, legs, arms, or feet
  • Severe and persistent vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation
  • Severe headache, blurred vision, or a pounding sensation in your neck or ears
  • Easy bruising or bleeding (such as bleeding gums, nosebleeds, heavy menstrual bleeding, or any bleeding that won’t stop)
  • Jaundice
  • Jaw pain or numbness, slow healing after dental work, red or swollen gums, or loose teeth
  • Pain, bleeding, blisters, or severe rash on the palms of your hands or soles of your feet
  • Low blood calcium (muscle spasms or contractions, numbness or tingling around your fingers, mouth, or toes)
  • Your future doses of Cabometyx may be delayed or stopped permanently if you experience certain side effects.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Some drugs may interact with Cabometyx, potentially increasing the risk of side effects or affecting how the medications work. It’s important to consult your doctor or healthcare provider before combining Cabometyx with any other drugs, including over-the-counter medications, herbal supplements, or vitamins.

  • Strong CYP3A4 Inhibitors: If you must take Cabometyx with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, your doctor may reduce the dosage. Avoid consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice.
  • Strong CYP3A4 Inducers: If taking Cabometyx with strong CYP3A4 inducers is unavoidable, your doctor may increase the dosage. Avoid using St. John's wort.
  • How should I store it?

Store this medication in its original container, tightly closed, and keep it out of the reach of children. Keep it at room temperature, away from excessive heat and moisture (do not store in the bathroom). Keep it safely out of children's reach.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

Overdose of Cabometyx can cause weight loss and kidney problems, seek emergency medical attention if needed.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Pregnancy: Cabometyx can be harmful to an unborn baby. Discuss with your healthcare provider which birth control methods may be appropriate for you.

Breastfeeding: It is unclear whether Cabometyx passes into breast milk. Do not breastfeed during treatment and for 4 months after your last dose of Cabometyx. Consult your doctor before taking this medication.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
