Why is Caverject prescribed?

Caverject (Alprostadil) is a naturally occurring prostaglandin used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence) and aid in diagnosing certain underlying causes of the condition. It is also employed to enhance blood circulation in newborns with a specific genetic heart condition.

What does it do?

It works by promoting blood flow to the penis, helping to achieve and sustain an erection. This medication is not intended for use in women or children and is not recommended for men with penile implants.

How should I take it?

Inject this medication into the penis as prescribed by your doctor. The dosage depends on your medical condition and response to treatment. It typically works within 5 to 20 minutes, providing an erection that lasts about 1 hour. Do not use more than 3 doses per week, with at least 1 day between doses.

Before use, check the product for particles or discoloration; do not use it if either is present. Be sure to learn how to store and dispose of medical supplies safely.

  • Clean the injection site with rubbing alcohol before each dose and rotate the injection site to minimize skin injury.
  • Always select a new site on the opposite side of the penis from the previous injection.
  • After injecting, apply pressure to the site with an alcohol swab for 5 minutes to reduce bruising. Use a straight needle for injection
  • If the needle breaks during the injection, contact your doctor immediately.
  • What if I missed a dose?

If you miss a dose of Caverject, administer it as soon as you remember, but only if it is still within the recommended dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one. If it’s close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Contact your doctor for further guidance.

What are the special precautions before taking Caverject?

Before using Alprostadil, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or any other substances, as the product may contain inactive ingredients that could cause allergic reactions or other issues.

Discuss your medical history with your doctor, especially regarding any penis conditions (e.g., angulation, fibrosis/scarring, Peyronie's disease), blood system cancers (e.g., leukemia, multiple myeloma), or sickle cell anemia.

Before surgery, make sure your doctor or dentist is aware of all the products you are using, including prescription and nonprescription medications, as well as herbal products.

Note that this medication does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) such as HIV, hepatitis B, gonorrhea, or syphilis. To reduce the risk of infection, always use a barrier method, like a latex or polyurethane condom, during sexual activity. For more information, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Does it have any side effects?

It is important to note that all drugs have corresponding side effects and adverse reactions.
      Common side effects may include:
  • Back pain
  • Cough
  • Dizziness
  • Itching, warmth, or numbness of the penis
  • Mild to moderate irritation, pain, or slight bleeding at the injection site
  • Unusual discharge from the penis
  • Pain in the urethra, penis, or testicles
  • Headache
  • Rash on the skin of the penis
  • Stuffy nose
  • Inform your doctor if you experience rare but serious side effects of Caverject, such as:

  • Redness, tenderness, or swelling of the penis
  • Lumps or unusual curvature of the penis
  • This list does not cover all possible side effects, and other reactions may occur. For more details on side effects, consult your doctor.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

The safety and effectiveness of combining Caverject with other vasoactive medications injected intracavernosally have not been established through clinical studies. The risk of prolonged erection, priapism, and hypotension may be higher with such combinations.

    How should I store it?

Store this unreconstituted medication at room temperature. Once reconstituted it should be used within 24 hours and store between 2°C to 25°C and do not freeze. Refer to the product packaging for specific storage instructions or consult your pharmacist. Keep all medications out of reach of children and pets.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

Overdose was not reported in clinical trials with Caverject Impulse. In the event of an intracavernous overdose, the patient should be monitored by a healthcare professional until any systemic effects have resolved and/or penile detumescence has occurred. Appropriate treatment for any systemic symptoms (e.g., hypotension) should be administered as needed.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

This medication is not intended for use by women, making it unlikely to be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. It is advised that men use a condom to prevent the transfer of the medication to a sexual partner who is pregnant or may become pregnant.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
