Why is Clinoril prescribed?

Clinoril (Sulindac) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve pain or inflammation associated with conditions such as arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, tendinitis, bursitis, and gout.

What does it do?

Clinoril works by inhibiting specific substances in the body that are responsible for causing pain, inflammation, and fever.

How should I take it?

The usual dose of Clinoril still depends on your condition to be treated and if you have any kidney or liver disease. Take Clinoril orally with food, although this may not completely reduce the risk of stomach or bowel issues (such as bleeding or ulcers). It is recommended to drink extra fluids while using Clinoril. If you experience ongoing stomach discomfort, consult your doctor.

What if I missed a dose?

If you miss a dose of Clinoril and are taking it regularly, take it as soon as you remember. If it's nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not take two doses at once.

What are the special precautions before taking Clinoril?

Always inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, your current and previous medical history
  • Liver disease (e.g., hepatitis)
  • Edema (fluid retention or swelling)
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Anemia, bleeding disorders, or blood clots
  • A history of heart attack or heart disease (e.g., congestive heart failure)
  • A history of kidney disease (e.g., kidney stones)
  • A history of stomach ulcers or intestinal bleeding
  • A history of stroke – use with caution, as these conditions may worsen
  • Aspirin-sensitive asthma or aspirin sensitivity – this medication should not be used in these cases
  • A history of heart surgery (e.g., coronary artery bypass graft [CABG]) – should not be used for pain relief immediately before or after surgery
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) – this may worsen side effects
  • If you experience blurred vision, difficulty reading, or any other vision changes during or after treatment, contact your doctor right away. They may recommend an eye examination by an ophthalmologist (eye doctor).

Contact your doctor immediately if you experience confusion, loss of appetite, nausea, a stiff neck or back, drowsiness, fever, general malaise, headache, or vomiting, as these could be signs of meningitis.

Does it have any side effects?

It is important to note that all drugs have corresponding side effects and adverse reactions. Additional information may be obtained when you ask your doctor or pharmacist.
      Common side effects may include:
  • Constipation or diarrhea

  • Eye Problems
  • Pancreatitis
  • Stomach Bleeding
There may be other side effects not listed here. If you think you are experiencing a side effect from this medication, contact your healthcare provider.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Some medications may interact with Clinoril. Inform your healthcare provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially the following:
  • Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (e.g., Enalapril), angiotensin receptor blockers (e.g., Losartan), or Diuretics (e.g., Furosemide, Hydrochlorothiazide), as Clinoril may reduce their effectiveness.

  • Bisphosphonates (e.g., Risedronate, Alendronate), as they may increase the risk of stomach or bowel issues. Contact your doctor if you experience stomach pain, nausea, heartburn, vomiting, or a feeling of fullness.

  • Anticoagulants (e.g., Warfarin), Aspirin, Corticosteroids (e.g., Prednisone), Heparin, other NSAIDs (e.g., Ibuprofen), or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) (e.g., Fluoxetine), as they may increase the risk of stomach bleeding.

  • Diflunisal or Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO), as they may reduce Clinoril's effectiveness.

  • Cyclosporine, Lithium, Methotrexate, Quinolones (e.g., Ciprofloxacin), or Sulfonylureas (e.g., Glipizide), as Clinoril may increase the risk of their side effects.

  • Probenecid, as it may raise the risk of side effects from Clinoril.

This may not be a complete list of all possible interactions. Ask your healthcare provider if Clinoril could interact with any other medications you are taking. Always check with your healthcare provider before starting, stopping, or changing the dosage of any medicine.

How should I store it?

Store the medication in a tightly closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Do not allow it to freeze. Keep out of reach of children.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

If you or someone else has taken too much Sulindac, with symptoms like hyperventilation seek medical help immediately by calling your doctor or hospital.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Clinoril should only be used when prescribed during the first 6 months of pregnancy. It is not recommended for use during the last 3 months of pregnancy due to the potential risk to the fetus and possible interference with normal labor and delivery. It is unclear whether this medication passes into breast milk, so breastfeeding while using Clinoril is not recommended.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
