Why is Imvexxy prescribed?

Imvexxy (estradiol vaginal inserts) is an estrogen medication used to treat moderate to severe dyspareunia, a symptom of vulvar and vaginal atrophy caused by menopause.

What does it do?

Imvexxy is an estrogen, a hormone essential for vaginal health. During menopause, natural estrogen levels decrease, leading to vaginal dryness and irritation. Imvexxy helps raise estrogen levels, potentially alleviating these menopause-related symptoms.

How should I take it?

Imvexxy is for vaginal use only and should not be taken by mouth.

  • Insert one Imvexxy into the vagina once daily at the same time each day for the first two weeks.
  • After that, use one insert twice a week, spaced every three to four days (such as on Monday and Thursday), for as long as treatment continues.

What if I missed a dose?

After two weeks of daily use, Imvexxy is usually taken twice a week. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, then return to your regular schedule or adjust to a new twice-weekly routine. If it's nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose as scheduled. Do not take extra doses.

What are the special precautions before taking Imvexxy?

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, your current and previous medical history.

Do not use Imvexxy if you have the following conditions:

  • Have a diagnosed bleeding disorder.
  • Have or have had blood clots.
  • Have or have had liver problems.
  • Have experienced a stroke or heart attack.
  • Have unusual vaginal bleeding. Bleeding after menopause can be a warning sign of uterine (womb) cancer. Your healthcare provider should evaluate any unexpected bleeding to determine the cause.
  • Have or have had certain types of cancer. Estrogen can increase the risk of developing certain cancers, including breast and uterine cancer. If you have a history of cancer, consult your healthcare provider to determine whether Imvexxy is appropriate for you.

Additionally, avoid consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice while using Imvexxy, as it may raise estradiol levels in your blood and increase the risk of serious side effects. Limit alcohol intake while using Imvexxy, as heavy alcohol use may increase the risk of liver damage.

Does it have any side effects?

It is important to note that all drugs have corresponding side effects and adverse reactions. Additional information may be obtained when you ask your doctor or pharmacist.

If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop using estradiol immediately and seek emergency medical help:
    Serious side effects may include:
  • A lump in the breast
  • Painful, swollen leg
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes
  • Pain or tenderness in the abdomen
  • Shortness of breath or chest pain
  • Severe headache, vomiting, dizziness, fainting, or changes in vision or speech

Other, less serious side effects may also occur. If you experience any of the following, continue using estradiol and talk to your doctor:

  • Depression
  • Swollen breasts
  • Decreased sex drive
  • Migraine or dizziness
  • Vaginal pain, dryness, or discomfort
  • Water retention (swelling in the feet, hands, or ankles)
  • Changes in your menstrual cycle or breakthrough bleeding
Other side effects may also occur. Consult your doctor if you notice any unusual or particularly bothersome symptoms.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Always inform your healthcare provider about all prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications, , and other supplements you are currently using.

Specifically, discuss the use of any of the following medications before starting Imvexxy:

  • St. John's Wort, a supplement commonly used for depression
  • Phenobarbital or carbamazepine (Carbatrol and others), medications for seizure control
  • Rifampin, an antibiotic used to treat tuberculosis
  • Erythromycin or Clarithromycin, antibiotics for bacterial infections
  • Ketoconazole or Itraconazole, antifungal medications
  • Ritonavir, a medication for HIV treatment

Other medications may also affect the blood levels of Imvexxy. Make sure to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking or have recently used.

This list may not cover all possible drug interactions with Imvexxy. Always consult your healthcare provider for more information.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

If you or someone else has used too much Imvexxy, discontinue and seek medical help immediately.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Imvexxy is not intended for use during pregnancy, in females of reproductive potential, or while breastfeeding.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
