Why is Lysodren prescribed?

Lysodren is a prescription medication used to treat adrenal gland cancer (adrenocortical carcinoma), whether the tumor is functional (producing excess steroid hormones) or non-functional (not producing hormones), in cases where the cancer cannot be surgically removed.

What does it do?

Lysodren (Mitotane) works by slowing the growth or destroying adrenal gland cells and reducing the production of hormones by the adrenal gland.

How should I take it?

Take this medication orally with food that contains fat, as instructed by your doctor, typically 3 to 4 times a day. Swallow the tablets whole; do not crush, chew, or break them. Avoid taking tablets that are broken or crushed.

You and/or your caregiver should wear disposable gloves when handling this medication. If any powder from a broken or crushed tablet comes into contact with the skin, wash the area thoroughly with soap and water.

What if I missed a dose?

Take Lysodren as soon as possible after a missed dose. If it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Do not double dose.

What are the special precautions before taking Lysodren?

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, your current and previous medical history.
  • Liver disease
  • Have ovarian cysts
  • Experience bleeding disorders
  • Recent surgery, infection, or trauma;
  • If you take a blood thinner (such as Warfarin)

Do not use Lysodren if you are pregnant, as it may harm the unborn baby or cause miscarriage or premature birth. Be sure to use effective birth control to prevent pregnancy while taking this medication. Avoid breastfeeding during treatment with Lysodren.

If you experience a serious injury or medical emergency, you may need to take steroid medication or temporarily stop Lysodren. Your doctor will advise you when it is safe to resume treatment. Do not adjust your dose or medication schedule without consulting your doctor.

Does it have any side effects?

It is important to note that all drugs have corresponding side effects and adverse reactions. Additional information may be obtained when you ask your doctor or pharmacist.

    Common side effects may include:
  • Nausea
  • Rash
  • Diarrhea
  • Dizziness
  • Loss of appetite
    Serious side effects may include:
  • Confusion
  • Blurred or double vision
  • Pelvic pain or vaginal bleeding
  • Any bleeding that will not stop
  • Problems with balance, speech, or walking
  • Light-headedness or feeling like you might pass out
  • Easy bruising or bleeding (such as nosebleeds)
This list does not include all possible side effects. If you experience any symptoms or have concerns, contact your doctor for medical advice.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Using Lysodren together with any of the following drugs is not recommended. Your doctor may choose to avoid prescribing Lysodren or adjust your other medications:

  • Atazanavir
  • Isavuconazonium
  • Lorlatinib
  • Elbasvir
  • Fostemsavir
  • Grazoprevir
  • Daclatasvir
  • Dasabuvir
  • Delamanid
  • Doravirine

Taking this medication with any of the following drugs may increase the risk of certain side effects. However, using both medications together might still be the most effective treatment for you. If both are prescribed, your doctor may adjust the dosage or frequency of one or both medicines:

  • Midazolam
  • Risperidone
  • Aripiprazole Lauroxil
  • Warfarin

This list does not cover all possible drug interactions with Lysodren (Mitotane).

How should I store it?

Store Lysodren at room temperature, protected from moisture and heat, and keep it out of reach of children.

How should I store it?

If someone has overdosed and is experiencing severe symptoms like loss of consciousness or difficulty breathing, call emergency services immediately.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

You should avoid becoming pregnant while taking Mitotane, as it can harm an unborn baby. If you become pregnant, contact your doctor immediately to discuss the risks and benefits.

Mitotane can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing infant. Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment and for some time after the last dose. Your doctor will monitor your blood to decide when it is safe to begin breastfeeding. Always consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
