  • Description

Why is Zelboraf prescribed?

Zelboraf (Vemurafenib) is a kinase inhibitor prescribed for patients with metastatic melanoma that has the BRAFV600E mutation and cannot be surgically removed. Your doctor will perform a specific test to identify this mutation.

What does it do?

Zelboraf works by blocking the activity of a mutated protein called BRAF, which regulates cell growth. A mutation in BRAF causes cells to grow and divide uncontrollably, leading to the formation of a melanoma tumor. Around 50% of melanomas have this BRAF mutation. Vemurafenib specifically targets the V600E mutated form of the BRAF protein, disrupting its abnormal signals to slow or stop the unchecked cell growth.

How should I take it?

Take Zelboraf twice a day, 12 hours apart, with or without food. Do not crush or chew the tablets. You should only adjust your dose or discontinue the use of Zelboraf if instructed to do so by your doctor.

What if I missed a dose?

If you miss a dose of Zelboraf, take it as soon as you remember, unless it's less than 4 hours before your next scheduled dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the usual time. Do not double dose.

If you vomit after taking your scheduled dose of Zelboraf, do not take an extra dose. Simply take your next dose at the usual time.

What are the special precautions before taking Zelboraf?

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, your current and previous medical history. Before starting Zelboraf, inform your doctor if you:

  • Have liver or kidney problems
  • Have any other medical conditions
  • Have had or plan to receive radiation therapy
  • Have any heart conditions, including long QT syndrome
  • Have low levels of calcium, potassium, or magnesium in your blood
  • Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, as Zelboraf can harm your unborn baby

Does it have any side effects?

It is important to note that all drugs have corresponding side effects and adverse reactions. Additional information may be obtained when you ask your doctor or pharmacist.

    Common side effects may include:
  • Rash
  • Fatigue
  • Hair loss
  • Itching
  • Joint pain
  • Increased sensitivity to sunlight or sunburn
  • Warts
    Serious side effects may include:
  • Severe Skin Reactions: Stop Zelboraf and contact your doctor immediately if you develop a rash with blisters, peeling, fever, sores, or swelling of the hands, face, or feet.
  • QT Prolongation: This can lead to life-threatening irregular heartbeats. Your doctor will monitor your heart's electrical activity before and during treatment. Seek immediate medical attention if you feel dizzy, faint, or experience irregular or rapid heartbeats.
  • Liver Injury: Blood tests will monitor your liver function. Notify your doctor right away if you experience nausea, loss of appetite, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, or pain on the right side of your stomach.
  • Eye Problems: Contact your doctor if you experience eye pain, redness, swelling, or any changes in vision.
  • Worsening Radiation Side Effects: Inform your doctor if you’ve had or are planning radiation therapy.
  • Kidney Injury: Blood tests will monitor your kidney function before and during treatment.
Inform your doctor if you experience any side effects that are bothersome or persistent. These may not be all the possible side effects of Zelboraf. For more details, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Contact your doctor for medical advice regarding any side effects.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

Do not take this medication with the following drugs:
  • Cisapride
  • Pimozide
  • Saquinavir

How should I store it?

Store Zelboraf at room temperature, between 68°F and 77°F (20°C to 25°C), in its original container with the lid securely closed.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

If you take an overdose of Zelboraf, contact your doctor or go to the nearest emergency room immediately.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Do not take Zelboraf if you are pregnant, as it may harm the fetus. Use effective birth control and inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant during treatment.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
