Why is Zostrix Cream prescribed?

Zostrix Cream (Capsaicin) helps relieve mild pain in muscles and joints.

What does it do?

Zostrix Cream works by creating a warm or cool sensation on the skin, which helps block pain signals from reaching the brain.

How should I take it?

This medicine is for external use only—do not ingest it. Wash your hands before and after applying it. If you're treating your hands, only wash them before use. Follow the directions on your prescription and apply it at the same time each day. Do not use more than the recommended amount.

What if I missed a dose?

If you use Zostrix Cream regularly, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it's nearly time for your next dose, just use that dose and skip the missed one.

What are the special precautions before taking Zostrix Cream?

There are many over the counter (OTC) Capsaicin products available, and they may be used in different ways. Be sure to read and follow the instructions on the product label carefully to ensure proper use.

It’s common to feel some burning, stinging, or tingling when you first apply Capsaicin. Everyone reacts differently, but these sensations often improve or go away entirely with regular use. In fact, Capsaicin tends to be more effective when used consistently.

Stop using Capsaicin and contact your doctor if you experience any of the following:

  • Blistering, rash, or itching
  • Severe burning or irritation
  • Your symptoms go away and then return within a few days
  • Your symptoms worsen or persist longer than seven days

Capsaicin is for external use only. Avoid contact with sensitive areas such as the mouth, eyes, nose, lips, or genitals, as it can cause significant discomfort. To prevent accidental contact, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after applying, or use gloves during application. If Capsaicin gets on a sensitive area, rinse immediately with cool water.

Avoid covering the treated area with tight bandages or wraps, and do not expose it to heat sources immediately before or after application. This includes direct sunlight, hot compresses, heating pads, hot showers or baths, or intense physical activity, as heat may increase the risk of side effects and make the area more sensitive.

Does it have any side effects?

It is important to note that all drugs have corresponding side effects and adverse reactions. Additional information may be obtained when you ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • Allergic reactions such as itching, hives, skin rash, or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat.

Some side effects are usually mild and don't require medical attention, but let your doctor know if they become bothersome:

  • Redness, mild irritation, or dryness of the skin.
This may not include all possible side effects. For medical advice about side effects, contact your doctor.

Is it safe to take it with another drug?

No interactions are expected but avoid using other skin products on the affected area without consulting your healthcare provider.

How should I store it?

Store below 25°C and do not use after the expiry date on the packaging.

What action should I take in case of overdose?

If swallowed or used excessively, seek immediate advice from your doctor or visit the nearest hospital emergency department.

Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Pregnancy: It’s unclear whether Capsaicin affects pregnancy or the fetus. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, so they can advise whether it’s safe to use.

Breastfeeding: It’s unknown if Capsaicin passes into breast milk. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to do so. If you use Capsaicin while breastfeeding, avoid applying it near your nipples and wash your hands thoroughly before handling your baby. Also, avoid letting your baby touch any skin where capsaicin has been applied.

Canadian Prescription Drug Store dispenses medications from our fully licensed and independently verified pharmacy partners around the world from Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mauritius.

Legal disclaimer: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian online pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law. However, many legal experts disagree with the FDA's position in this regard stating that such importation is permitted under certain federal and state laws. Several State governments and consumer rights groups actively promote the importation of medications. The FDA itself provides the public information on how to import medications safely. Furthermore, there is no record of any US individual being prosecuted by the FDA for importing non-controlled prescription drugs for their personal use.
